i wont forget in the AM radio (594khz) program hosted by mr. mike enriquez yesterday morning...one of his listener text him...suggesting that it would be better that those luxury car's to be the used by the MMDA or AFP in pick-up'in those stranded commuter's in MANILA, EDSA and other places that is flooded by typhoon egay... ;D ;D ;D rather than destroying it ;D ;D ;D

there's no engine when they crushed it!!!! ;D they're going to sell it in banawe and install em in those Malaguena jeeps...thats why i saw the news last night. I think they should have not wrecked it...resources can be used for hungry families. Auction em to legit car importers or car collectors. What a waste!!!

the prob is, the person/s who smuggled it here will also be one to bid for it (and win!) in the auction... ganun din! they just found out a loophole in the system. they don't have to pay those 200x or 500x tax imposed on those gas-guzzlers...

The revenue target for 2008 is P1.2 Trillion. That is to support the national budget plus payment of interest for foreign debt. Guess who is going to shoulder this? Its mostly people like you and me. Remember eVAT? Those that can afford to buy luxury stuff should pay for the corresponding taxes. Smuggling should in fact we elevated to economic sabotage. We just hope that the government is serious about it.

We are a country whose laws all comes with a twist, whose everyday undertakings (like burning smuggled stuff) are not what they seem. Sometimes we should ask ourselves: "Are Filipinos extraordinarily smart and selfish or stupid and selfish?" Think officials and businessmen whose wealth and lifestyles boggle the minds of their counterparts in other countries. When I go abroad, I do not feel comfortable telling them I'm from the Philippines. I get more respect by telling them I'm from Japan instead! "Nan de?" (Why? hope I got the translation right...) I try to answer my own question... ... because we can't even say I LOVE MY COUNTRY convincingly!

let the manila's finest use the cars...they will be trash in no time at all hahaha! joke lang sir savers ;D
seriously, i think in the US, law enforcement forces use some of the cars...some even have stickers that sez something like "this used to be a drug smuggler's car"
best solution:
fire all those sonamabitches in the customs...most of them know these smugglers and in connivance with them.
btw, can a president fire the 1st lady or gentleman?

I personally know a dealer who sells so-called "subic luxury cars"... sad to say the vehicles they wrecked were not even the tip of the iceberg.... in fact, the total amount of all those vehicles wouldn't even amount to the Ferrari 599 gtb my friend sold to a pawnshop tycoon a few weeks ago (Php28M)... or the special edition blue lambo gallardo mtm in the news that my friend says was supposed to be delivered to someone very close to GMA.
how sad.... all the subic dealers and smugglers are all laughing with all this grand standing from the govt.
BTW, it's technically not smuggling cause these people actually paid all the duties and required taxes...so in fact they did nothing wrong... what is fraudulent here is the gross undervalue of the vehicles by customs officials who obviously have a cut on the earnings. In paper though, and under the law, these guys paid what the govt (represented by the customs officials) asked them to pay.

...and from what i heard those destroyed were all right hand drive vehicles which the government, even they want to, wont be able to auction them off because they are prohibited from doing so..i.e. its against the law to sell right hand drive vehicles in the philippines.

just to set the records right lest we create a wrong impression on things: 1. there are only 2 types of importers: a> the straight importers who declares the correct value, correct quantity, declares the correct commodity classification of goods and pays the correct duties and taxes due on their importation, and b> the SMUGGLERS, who mis-declares value, quantity, commodity classification to avoid payment of correct duties and taxes, most of the time in collusion with people from the Bureau of Customs. no amount of MAKING IT LOOK RIGHT can a SMUGGLING be NOT SMUGGLING - quote BTW, it's technically not smuggling cause these people actually paid all the duties and required taxes...so in fact they did nothing wrong... what is fraudulent here is the gross undervalue of the vehicles by customs officials who obviously have a cut on the earnings. Line up the Smugglers and not the Smuggled Cars. Or better Lined up the Cars with the Smugglers inside, Then let a Tank ran over it, or we can have Monster Truck race, para masaya!
