I know Apple and MacOs came before Windows... and since Windows came to market it overtook the fame of Apple as Personal Computers (PC). Mostly Apple computers were used only in big companies. I was previleged to use the Quadra, PowerMac 8600, iBook, the first iMac, iMac G4, eMac, and the G3, G4, G5. And Microsoft is mostly used at homes or in offices. In Microsoft, i was able to use the 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, 2004, ME, and XP. Before the era of the iPod, whenever i ask my friends about apple, none konws about it or little do they know. And when iPod was in it's early years, they are always amazed when i talked about it, saying it could fit 1000++ songs where regular mp3 players has the capacity of 256, 512mb and memory cards. Just later in the year 2003 maybe later that iPods became famous. And i think that was the only time home pc users recognized Apple as a computer manufacturer. I always like the workflow of MacOs, better than Windows. Only problem is that Apples are expensive, parts are hard to find, you could only get them at authorized distributors. Softwares are hard to find too and thanks to VirtualPC and similar products, you could use any software in MacOs. And better, you could use MacOs and Windows at the same time, which i think is not possible in Windows. who else here are lovers of Apple? what have you used, for what? and which would you choose, MacOs or Windows?

Apple user here. Got my hand on old Quadras in 1994 in the first company I worked with here in HK. It is then upgraded to Power PC 7300 where I used MiniCAD as the rest of the world were using AutoCAD (Release 12 - 14) on Windows based machine. Eventually, I've bought my own machine ( Apple PowerPC 7600 which I upgraded to 9600 ) which I'm still using up to now. To bad, I have to use windows based machine at work (I got one at home, too. I use it for my freelance jobs) coz not a lot of companies are using MiniCAD (VectorWorks) as CAD system nowadays. I must agree with Janix, Apple is expensive and its softwares. Even bootleg version are 10 times more expensive than their Windows counterparts and it's not easy to find. I always ended up buying licensed version. I still prefer MacOS though. I'm planning to get a latest model PowerBook which I'm sure would last several years of use for me, just like my old, trusted PowerPC 8600, my companion for more than 10 years.

brad actually they are quite expensive. lower prices than the Apple stores here but Ynzal's prices arent that low compared to the prices in HK and other suppliers here in the country.
for example, an iPod Video 30GB from them costs 17K (lowest) while I personally sell it at 15K (may tubo pa ko dun a) hehehe
try the local mac/apple forums
philmug.com and podcentral.ph
there are a lot of guys selling/distributing Macs and Apple products super cheap.

Apple user here, too. I started with Apple II Plus in College but got eaten up by the Windows world when I started working. But I shifted last year to Macs after years of tolerating my IBM Laptop and its virus-intolerant operating system (laging corrupt and needs constant reformats every quarter). I now have a 17" PowerBook G4 that I bought last year.
I also have a Mac Mini in the house for the kids.

I still have my Apple][+ from 1982. It still boots up, but I can't find my boot diskettes. It still boots into INTEGER BASIC.
I learned BASIC, LOGO and Motorola assembly language on it. Before we got the floppy drive, I would save my programs to cassette tape.
These days I have the company's notebook running WinXP Pro, 30+ servers scattered over southeast asia running various flavors of Linux. My gf has an iBook, which suits her just fine.
I don't actually own a computer myself, unless you count my Treo 650.

It uses a TV as monitor and a casette tape for storage.

reminds me of how different the internet is then and now. when i was a freshman the internet was just text based. no fancy graphics. windows was about to reach puberty (win 3.1) but the school's internet ran VAX. MUDs was the MMORPGs of that time, telephone was the IM, and mozcom was the chatroom to be in.

wow nostalgic.
when all of you were on 3.1's i was on tandy's. when you were on win95's, i was on 3.1's. then i inherited this mac laptop which will pass as an antique nowadays. it was probably a high-end laptop back then. it's got a built-in 3.5" floppy, modem, somewhat colored lcd screen...
i really hate pc's (although all my life i was using them). they are just really unstable. errors everywhere, unless you really maintain your pc. i can't imagine how a computer newbie will learn to use a PC proficiently with the new PCs.
and now i'm lusting for the mac book. c'mon it's a good deal!! at around 50k you get a nice mac laptop with decent processing speed.
and don't forget, YOU COULD RUN WINXP ON A MAC. the same way you could run OS X on a PC. so compatibility/software should not be an issue. i envy the tried and tested design, quality and whiteness of macs
but i'm in UP so i have to be linux. can you run linux on a mac?

Hi rob , You can only run win xp on macs running under dual core processors made by intel , and you need the software "Boot camp assistant " or the latest OS version of mac OS leopard i think.
Im using IMAC g5 dual core , you need to run the boot camp assitant so that you can 1.Partition the hard drive 2.Copy some mac driver prog 3. Install win XP on one of the hard drive ( usually D ) 4. Install the mac drivers
Note ; some features or hard wares are not supported by win XP .

or maybe you could get Parallels or Connectix virtual PC, it's a third party software that can let you run Windows and Mac at simultaneously... making switches between OS in a click of the mouse.
