OK brad thanks for the tip.. I use xmms, looks like and feels like winamp. you mean distro? Debian Sid/Unstable don't use win4linpro (which is for win2k and winxp only) if you have a slow machine.. those OS are memory eaters and running them on top of linux is so slow esp on boot up... and what is happening on ordinary windows machine will also happen to your windows on linux (viruses, crash) but of course your linux system will not be affected... if you like to stay with windows too just use the package for win95/98/winme not win4linpro... and no need for maintenance like defragmentation and scandisk cause it running on linux.... anyway why use the whole OS when you got wine... just sharing...

The problem with Windows based PCs is that it's the most popular platform. Due to this, it is the one most prone to attacks from viruses, intrusions. If someone is developing a virus, siyempre titirahin mo yung pinaka marami. Most of the OS problems are caused by external causes such as these intrusions or conflicts caused by other software.
Get sufficient protection and it will work like a charm. In the States, good antiviruses like Norton Internet Security comes as oem on PCs. You'd just have to update it when it is about to expire. You'd have to learn how to use it though. Common problem is may protection nga, di naman updated. May firewall nga, allow lang ng allow ng access.
Here in Pinas, we usually don't want to pay for extra protection especially when using cracked OS. There are good free protection available online. Good ones are Zonealarm for firewall and AVG antivirus. For Advertising Spyware issues (lalo na sa mahilig mag Kazaa, Limewire, etc...) Adaware is the best.
Microsoft is trying to beef up it's own built in protection with Service Pack 2 for XP. It's good to install as long as you don't have current os corruption or infections. Otherwise it's inadvisable because it can screw it up more due to these possible conflicts.
Issues with IE? There's Mozilla and Firefox.
Since Windows is the most popular platform, it's the most targeted so it will have the most problems. It's great as long as you know how to take care of it. I'm sure that if it's the other way around (let's say MAC or Linux is the most popular), they would be the most targeted too.

Ayan na-update ko na yung link.
anyways on maintenance of PC, always make sure that your PC is free from dust. Just use an ordinary paint brush or a vacuum cleaner to do the stuff but make sure not to loose those jumpers on your mainboard if your going to use a vacuum cleaner.
