have you heard of BPL - Broadband over Power Lines, I'm currently engaged with this project in one of the province here in the philippines.... Internet Connection directly to your Electrical Outlet.... a 200Mbps technology....even in remote areas can have internet thru their power line..... your dsl's limitation.... more cheaper than wifi equipments.....watch out for this one.... It will be out soon.....

pde ba kahit wlang kuryente? nope.... no electric power no more connection.... BPL equipments get its power source directly to the powerline at the same time injecting the data.... so no pwer no service

Ganito na lang, propose a Telecommute Program at work and have them connect you to the office via DSL connection hehe Just think, less time and energy wasted on commute more time and energy to bike everyday no need to dress-up for work (attend that meeting online in your sando and shorts! hehe) Haha...One of my favorate technology. VPN.. but still you need to pay for the DSL/dial up connection. unless your company will cover .

It has a downside of this similar to wireless technology..INTERFERENCE but another alternative to reach people that need networking now rather than run cable or fiber optic that could be done for years.

May reklamo lang ako sa PLDT, I think you guys should be aware of so you won't fall into the same predicament as me.
I've been using PLDT DSL for years so I was part of the upgrade promos. Nasa 700-something kbps na yata ako, P2500 monthly. For economic reasons, I wanted to downgrade to their P900 personal plan (promo?) so I called them up. They (I called twice) said I have to pay P5,000 to downgrade. So I asked, what's the P5,000 for. For the downgrade daw. I think that's too much for a simple downgrade service. I proceeded to ask them what if I just discontinue and apply again. They said I can't do that for three months after I disconnect.
P5,000 for what? Pressing a few buttons or something? That's 2 months worth of connection (at the higher rate)! I think PLDT is taking advantage of their monopoly of phone lines in their areas--knowing we don't have any other choice of DSL (PLDT owns the lines in certain areas).
To think that during the upgrade promo, they tied me up for a certain period (1 year yata) the same way cellphone companies tie you up for a free handphone unit. I "paid" for the upgrade... now I have to pay P5,000 to downgrade?
Perhaps someone here from PLDT can explain. The girls on the phone couldn't. Parang, "it's just the way it is."
Didn't Microsoft just lose (or was it settled) a similar anti-trust case?

BPL / broadband over powerllines is a type of network/ LAN. you just plug a BPL adapter to a PC to share the connection. but u still need a cable modem or DSL modem connected to a BPL router for you to get a connection
