I wonder if anyone has encountered computer shops that open up laptop batteries for repair? I think mine is already spent but buying a new one is pretty stiff - pwede din i-save yon for bike parts! I was wondering if it's possible and safe to just have the cells replaced. I've tried "conditioning" it na din (total discharge then recharge) several times but to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help!

My laptop's a Toshiba A10 and just over a year old. Ang mahal lang ng original battery pack so sana pwede cells lang ang palitan. I thought it was good to always drain the battery as in the old days when batteries (NiCad) had memories to avoid "memory effect"... so I always drained it before charging. I read recently that contrary to the old batteries, it is in fact now recommended to charge them earlier and only drain occasionally. Apparently, today's lithium batteries do not have memories anymore so the greater enemy of today's batteries is the increased heat from longer charge-time. So with modern batteries, charge when you can, and drain once-in-a-while just to calibrate with the computer's battery meter software. (Can someone confirm if this is true?) brad Kevin thanks sa contact info. Will give them a call. Medyo malayo lang noh? brad anthrax, feedback naman kapag nauna ka magpagawa. Any more suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks brad BrusKO. Will check it out too as soon as I can.
This is beginning to affect my Windows XP. We all know how poorly Windows handles improper shutdowns. My laptop is acting up alread. I think sooner or later, I'll have to reformat.

I learned an expensive LESSON here.... (learned the following from a techie friend).... let me share...
NEVER discharge wet-cell batteries. Always keep them charged... just like car batteries. This is also true with new cellphones. Check nyo laptops/cellphones/etc., if it's Lithium-Ion then keep it charged always. Only discharge when you absolutely need to calibrate your meter... but you do this at the expense of battery life.
Baligtad naman sa dry-cell batteries... kung NiCD or NiMH, full-discharge nyo naman as often as possible before recharging to avoid "memory effect".
Also, wet-cell batteries (Li-Ion) also get "used-up" whether you use them or not so don't stock up on spares and always check the manufacturing date when buying replacements. Keep them charged when not in use.
Keep Lithium-Ion batteries cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.

Sir Gilbs I found this place kanina, hope this helps. Batteries Specialist Market! Market! 4th flr Fort Bonifacio Global City Taguig 758-0233 meron din sa Farmers sa Cubao, I forgot the floor pero it's just near KFC & Mister Doughnut ( bka 3rd flr yun) lapit lang sa MRT station. no land line but here is the cell 0916 371 6846 the charge daw according dun sa nakausap ko : 300 for labor for the first 6 batteries, 50 pesos per additional battery. tapos Li-Ion costs 300 per piece daw. So kung meron akong 12 volts na battery, ang total is around 3k++ ( labor + materials ) BTW they don't accept HP, Compact, and Dell(ata). mahirap daw iservice. the website is www.batteryspecialist.netplease keep us updated kung what happens

Thanks brad coolangot... This is really big help. Now, I know I still have to save a few more pesos. BTW, I'm assuming batteries meant individual cells inside. I don't really know kasi what's inside. Tama po ba? Salamat po.

Tama po ba? Salamat po. Yes gilbs, there are actually several individual cells inside. If the type/size of that particular cell is available, they just remove the spent ones and replaced them with new ones and resolder inside your laptop battery case.

Yes gilbs, there are actually several individual cells inside. If the type/size of that particular cell is available, they just remove the spent ones and replaced them with new ones and resolder inside your laptop battery case. As much as possible, raise the dough and replace all batteries (spent or not) at the same time. The whole set will last longer. Same analogy with replacing the tires of your car. If the new one is paired with an old one, the new one will wear out faster than if both tires (or slippers) are of the same condition. Moral of the story, If you're putting new batteries in your equipment, use all new ones. If you're using old batteries (for your flashlight, for example), use all old ones. Don't mix and match.
