MY PC IS ACTING UP ON ME . IF I COPY A DISC (DVD / VCD OR ANY TYPE OF DISC IN PARTICULAR) TO MY HARD DRIVE, THE MUSIC I AM PLAYING (mp3) ON MEDIA PLAYER SLOWS DOWN (ALA KUYA CESAR STYLE!) I TRIED OTHER TYPES OF PLAYERS LIKE ITUNES / WINAMP THINKING IT COULD POSSIBLY BE WITH WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER THOUGH BEFORE IT WAS OK PLAYING MP3 AND COPYING VIDEO'S AT THE SAME TIME , BUT NO LUCK FOR ME.ANY IDEAS? COULD CHANGING THE REGIONAL SETTINGS FOR DVD PLAYBACK CAUSE THIS? I THINK I REMEMBER THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I WAS PROMPTED ONCE WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO WATCH A MOVIE THAT I NEEDED THE REGIONAL SETTINGS CHANGED OR SOMETHING.DEFRAG DOESNT WORK , SAME WITH SYSTEM RESTORE. IM THINKING OF REFORMATTING AS A DRASTIC MEASURE BUT HATE TO LOSE ALL THE MOVIES I HAVE SAVED.AND I THINK IT'S NOT JUST THE MUSIC PLAYING THATS AFFECTED,THE OVER ALL SPEED OF MY PC IS , HAVE AN 80 GIG HD BTW AND USING 60++ % ,AMD ATHLON PROCESSOR/512 MB DDR SDRAM MEMORY.SUCKS NOT HAVING A DVD BURNER. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

DMA??? what the hell is that?! hehehe i might go ahead with the drastic measure of reformatting but that has to wait til next year. ride? 2nd week of december most likely, team building namin sa fontana dec.3-4 e.salyahan este sayahan muna.hehehe

my guess is DMA is not set properly. No need to reformat dude. iba ang problem.
to check if DMA is enabled go to control panel then select system... go to hardware tab then click on device manager (win2000,XP,win2003) ... Device window opens then find the IDE controller tree ... click it, then click Primary IDE channel, then select the Advance tab, your Device 0 and Device 1's transfer mode should be "DMA if available" and current transfer mode should NOT be "PIO ...."
If transfer mode is set to "DMA if available" but your current transfer mode is "PIO only" then somethings wrong with your Harddisk cable.
If not then its something else.

hey brad, what's the timespan from the day you can run your pc smoothly up to now?If you don't usually tinker with your PC ( meaning opening it then "kalikot" na laman loob), it could be that your hard disk is fragmented or your due to installation/deinstallation of programs "nagugulo na yung PC mo". Also it maybe because of spywares/adwares/trojans/virii/etc because of too much online porn ;D heh heh
Before you reformat your pc you might want to try these:
1. Free up some disk space ( delete unused files, uninstall unused applications. tska yung porn ;D heh heh) 2. If using WinXP try reducing "eye candy" to speed up your system. Eye candy are the themes, shadows, etc. 3. Defrag 4. Scan for Adwares/Spywares/Virii /Trojans 5. Use scandisk or better yet Norton Utilities to check for bad sectors or corrupted parts of your disk 6. If you are on WinXP.. are you still using FAT? use NTFS instead. 7. Use Norton utilities to speed up your disk ( it's a lot better than defrag ) 8. Check you swap file size (set it to automatic) 9. Check your registry for orphan/corrupted entries.
-advanced-
10. When your applications are running, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and look at the task manager. Look for tasks that consumes very large memory. Look at the graph, how much swap file/ physical memory/ CPU process/ threads are used. does it reach 100 %?
11. Look at your start up folder, are there entries there? Remove what you don't need (be careful tho)
There's still lots more.. but try doing 1-9 ( up to 11 if you can, much better ) above, but if it still does not improve, maybe you need to reformat your PC.
;D

Hey brad, try doing this... One at a time.
1. Click Start>Run = Run window will come up. type "msconfig" w/o the quote. Then click startup tab. You'll see a list of programs that has checks. click disable all. check should go out. then click apply then close, then click Yes to Restart.
== There might have a lot of programs running at the background that consumes space of the memory, disabling these checked programs at startup will free up space in the memory, this might resolve the sluggish issue. most pc problems got resolve in doing this.
2. Go to Device manager. Click start>right click My Computer, click Properties>
- System Properties window will appear, from this window, click Hardware then Device manager. - At Device manager. Youll see a list of hardware/drivers installed in the computer. -Look for CD/DVD Rom Drives. Click the Plus next to it. Youll see the brands of cdrom/dvdrom you have underneath it. -Right click each device then click Uninstall. Click Yes to Remove it. then close all window then Restart your PC. - After reboots, XP will re-install the drivers automatically. You'll see found new hardware at the bottom right corner of the system tray.
== This to refresh the drivers of your cdrom/dvdrom drives, it might be corrupted or something, most cdrom issues got resolved in doing this.
3. Then go back to Device manager. Look for IDE Controlers. Click the plus next to it, then underneath that look for, Secondary and Primary IDE Controlers.
- Right click Secondary IDE Controler then choose un-install. Click Yes/OK to Remove it. - Right Click Primary IDE Controler then choose un-install. Click Yes/OK to Remove it. System will ask you "You must Restart your computer for the changes to take effect" Click Yes to Restart. After Reboots System will Re-install drivers automatically.
== This is to redetect the controlers of the cdrom/dvdrom drives including hard drive. Controlers of the two might had conflict with each other.
4. Lets deal with the Cdrom/DVD Rom Registry. ( Be carefull in doing this, any incorrect actions on the registry file will affect the functionality of the system. Take one step at the time and read each step carefully)
Click the Start button, click Run. In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK. Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
NOTE: When you click the plus sign (+) next to a folder, it will expand displaying the folders it contains in the left-hand pane of the Registry Editor. When a folder is highlighted, its contents will be displayed in the right-hand pane of the Registry Editor.
Click the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM. Click the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet. Click the plus sign (+) next to Control. Click the plus sign (+) next to Class. Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. On the right side of the window, click UpperFilters. Click Edit on the menu bar. Click Delete, and then click OK. On the right side of the window, click LowerFilters. Click Edit on the menu bar. Click Delete, and then click OK. Click File, and then click Exit. Restart the computer normally.
== This is to refrech the registry of the cdrom/dvdrom, this deals with winxp outside drivers and software, this for the internal winxp command/syntax.
Hope this helps....
Take one action at a time, try the first step then deal with the issue. If problem persits proceed with the next step. so and so...
Keep us posted.
-Jesse

DCSE= Dell Certified Systems Expert. usually these certifications are given out by the company where you work for, in this case if your referring to eiwol = etelecare. tama po ba eiwol? i think you just go to this certain website and you'll be provided with a log in of some sort if i'm not mistaken. its a dell website.
