I just have to say, it was a blast!!! My 1990 Gary Fisher Advance (38X18) tore up the Sta. Rosa trails this past Sunday. For a rigid bike, it rode surprisingly supple. I was expecting a bone jarring experience but I had no such finding while on the trail.
I think it helped that I'm using Roll-X Pro Dual Compound Tires. They were nice and soft and took any rough stuff that the Sta. Rosa trails could dish out. I was running them at a comfortable 36psi.
I made it to the top of the climb in my own record time. It was definitely my personal best time. I don't know what that exact time was since I don't have any sort of speed or time device hooked up to my SS, but I know I made it up to the top in no time at all. Needless to say, I had stand the whole way up.
The nice thing about SS'ing is how quiet the entire ride is. You don't hear a thing coming from the bike. Simplicity really is a nice thing. The only problem I had was my tensioner cage coming loose thus derailing the chain a couple of times. It was nothing that a 4mm allen wrench couldn't fix though. After I tightened the bolt a second time, it gave me no problems again.
And the SS'ing saga begins............. Thanks a lot **sarcastically** Agu for getting the SS'ing idea into my head!!! I can blame you for any additional expenses I incur....
Anyone selling an Independent MTB frame..... he he

I wouldn't say I overtook him. I don't think he was trying his hardest, plus he was also on a 34+ pound bike. I don't think it would be fair to say I overtook him, although it did feel good to get up there so quickly!
It was definitely a great first SS'ing experience for me. I highly recommend it.

when I rode with Chuck he had a rigid fork on his Monocog, though he was thinking of slapping on a Fox...
If he upgraded, maybe Jeeves can strike a deal for Chuck's old fork hehe

If he upgraded, maybe Jeeves can strike a deal for Chuck's old fork hehe He was there at Sabak yesterday. We were talking about gear ratios and stuff. He assembled his bike and rode it a bit in front of Sabak. The rigid fork is still mounted on the monocog...I left them at Sabak and went with another old timer to start the ride early. But when their group arrived at bukohan...I was surprised he was riding a full-suspension He told me he switched bike. Maybe he did this because of the heavy rain...I told him the climb was actually better after it was soaked by the heavy rain When tayo group ride...rain or shine

Anyone selling an Independent MTB frame..... he he 38X18 that has got to be the nicest gear ratio on the apat na palapags! wish i had the same as well. if 36psi gives you comfort, wait till you try 25psi. i heard allain (aka barracuda) runs the upak trail at 25psi on a HT with a black fork though with typical 2.0 tires. see you at the trails.
