Would anyone know where I could find SS chainrings, preferably 32T? I'm also looking for cogs and spacers. 15T, 16T, 17T
Any suggestions where to look.
THanks in advance.

Mr King! I'll email you on the e-group address. I'm building something you'll be proud of.......
It's 1990 Gary Fisher Advance. It was my brother's that was just lying around the garage collecting dust and rust for the past 15 years. I saw its potential....
I'm restoring it now as a singlespeed. Full rigid. I was able to salvage some of the original parts. (Handle bar with "Gary Fisher" logo etched, seatpost, stem, and cranks which turn out to be old school Shimano LX with bb)
Got the frame back from the painter yesterday.
Could I buy the 16T from you if you're selling?

wow cool bike! that's still chromo? those cranks are the old LX 5 arm right? might have trouble getting a chainring for that. i think it has a different bolt diameter from road cranks. i've seen some of those old cranks in quiapo. you can have the 16. bo meant the cogs for all future PISSers.

The guy copied the graphics perfectly. The only difference is the frame color and I had one blue design stripe removed. Notice the original Gary Fisher Stem that needs to be refinished too. The only thing I forgot to do was to have the guy redo Gary Fisher's signiture on the seat tube

This bike is swelling with hard to find oldschool parts! The frame alone is a classic. Keep the pictures coming once the bike's finished, JM!

that's one sweet SS, jmlag. if you could take hold of those spare spacers from outboard bearing type BB, it will work. Ask your favorite LBS, they might have several pieces lying around.

Thanks Bee. I'll ask around about the spacers from external BB's. I have a few lying around but I'll definitely need more.
Bruce almighty! I'll post more pictures for sure. I put the original middle ring on to see if it was useable...... no way. You can't tell from the picture but the ring is more of an oval than a circle! I NEED a chain ring. I NEED to complete the bike today. Ha ha.
King was kind enough to donate a 16T cog. Thank you King! King, you better get back on your bike soon or else I'm gonna start taking some parts........very tempting since your bike is just sitting there.....

Hi JM!
That looks sweet! Is that a 34T ring? I think I have a spare 18T or 20T cog lying around. Might be hard to find a chainring for the crank - maybe you can score a square-taper deore, or one of those external types?
If you want to keep it era, someone was posting a host of old-skool Suntour parts in the Buy and Sell forum - canti's, crank, bb, hubs- might be work checking out if the price is right.
What wheelset you slapping on the GF? Old school as well? I have a wheelset lying around, 32H Mavic 230BSP's laced to 32H Deore DX hubs...lemme know if you need em, maybe we can do a parts swap or something.
Are the bars narrow? If they're wide, so much the better!
All that needs now is a pair of Panaracer Smokes, or Onza Porcupines!!!

ahhh here found the link: tinyurl.com/p2skuSpeaking of old-skool parts, there's a shop in Carti (Ballistic) that has a lot of them. Problem is, their prices are old-skool as well - as in ballistic and expensive hehe King! Glad to see you up and about. Maybe you should drop by the office one time, the girls are looking for you I mean so you can look at the girls hehe

Cool!!! thanks Agu. That ring is a 38T!!! Way too big but I just wanted to put one on just to put a ring on.
If I would have known about your wheelset.........I just had Kaloy build a 36H Mavic 221 with LX hubs! d@mn. Yours would have been perfect because I was looking for 32H rims!!!!
How much you selling? Text me please

Finally just got done building her up! I'll be changing the stem as soon as I can get the new one to fit. This one is just too long and it's got a rise the size of John Holmes.... You guys won't believe what I ended up using as spacers; a pair of old Fox Float 32mm Fork seals and open ring type ball bearings from the original headset from the bike. Then I used a SRAM lock ring to fasten the cog to the hub. Thank you, KING!! You da man!! I'm now using the 16T, but I'll definitely be using the 21T you left as well. Thank you, Thank you!! Here's the shot of the cog:

Hey, I'm late to the party. That's one good looking old skul bike you have there! Great paint job, looks like a spanking new frame.
I'm glad those cogs are getting some good use. I can't believe these shimano/novatec steel cogs are hard to find in the local shops. BTW if you have a aluminum freehub body, these skinny cogs could damage them a bit by digging into the metal. Steel freehugs have no long-term issues.
I do have one suggestion. You might want to cut the chain length down a bit when you do settle on a gear. There's not much chain wrap on that cog. Are you able to run that tensioner in "push up" mode? (a zip tie might help keep it in place). Also, the chain might drop off pretty easily with that setup... last thing you want to happen when you're standing on a climb.
Is that a quill type stem? I can't tell from the photos. What's the availability of those type of stems?

cool!! let's get it dirty! I think King's 21T was from me, if I rememer right. That should work ok with the 38T front for now. Nice job with the spacers - with spare bearings pa hehehe
You can still remove a few more links from the chain to get better chain wrap on the rear. But do so only after trying on the 21T- try to get as much chain around the cog as possible.
Let us know how you like it!

Agu, where'd you find a 21T cog? Endless? Surly? I couldn't find any shimano/novatec in that size.

hey jm, dont thank me, thank bo! those were his cogs. agu, the 21 (bo, the 21 came off his old cassette) was part of the bunch of cogs i left at the shop. jm, did you leave the rest of them at all terra? yeah the tensioner looks like it should be closer to the chainstay. set up like that, it looks like a rear derailleur! haha

Thanks for the help guys! I left the other cogs at the shop but I'll need the bigger cog for sure. It's way too heavy to pedal right now. I really wasn't sure how to setup the tensioner. You guys are so right. I just tried it out in the driveway and the chain is skipping like crazy. I need to remove links and change the cog.

jm, check the chainline as well. that may be why it's skipping. it should be as straight as possible
