check your gear ratio and what the course is like. i'm not really familiar on how XC races are conducted, but i'm experienced in SS. you cant take advantage of maintaining momentum on downhills. hehehe. there wouldn't be much resistance on your pedalling. a slight advantage on bike weight conservation. minimal plus on climbs. but hey, try no. baka pwede. hehehehe.

guys like travis brown and adam craig sometimes race short track xc on SS (and they sometimes win!). mat finished the minimum 12 laps in the cecon 24hr race, so definitely you can race a SS in xc. you have to know the course really well though, and find the right gearing, and of course be used to biking ss. agu biked the course on the karate monkey using 32x18. he should have some suggestions about the gearing.

I could just imagine the leg-power of this guy!

hi there. well, i stalled in one section though - going that rocky climb in roxas course should be rideable on a 26er with 32x18, 32x19, or 34x20 gearing incidentally, DanDan cleaned the climb on 32x14

Up that steep loose climb in roxas? wow! on 32x14 double wow!
BTW, do you have trouble getting enough traction to your rear tire on steep loose climbs where you have to stand up and move to the front?

hi there! during the Men's Health race I played sweeper and course marshal - making sure noone was left behind. I did manage to clean the rocky section (with much effort!)...with regards to maintaining traction, I run around 30-32psi on the rear, my tires are Maxxis Ignitors...I think you'll need to experiment with a tire pressure that works for you. So far, the Ignitors have been sticky enough. You also have to pick and choose your lines carefully, and have a good "feel" for the tires...once you feel them slipping a bit, sometimes a simple weight shift (even something as simple as tilting your head forward more) can make it hook up again...a bit hard to explain, but you'll know what I mean once you start riding up loose stuff. I think a group ride is in order soon! Once the weather clears up
