Hello SS'ers!! I'd like to convert my geared bike to SS. I first thought of building a new bike but changed my mind and instead convert my current bike. (budget constraints ) Don't ask me why I'm doing this coz I don't know also. Maybe after I convert my bike I'll know the answer. Where can I get cheap SS conversion kit and tensioner? I read somewhere here, it only cost 400pesos each for the kit and tensioner? But I can't seemed to find it anymore. TIA

Most LBS sell the conversion kit. You may choose between Fireye or Da Bomb if budget will be an issue. Otherwise, there's always the higher end, Surly.

You can find SS conversion kits at Cycle Art, King's Bike, Ross Cycle (and some other LBS in the metro)
DaBomb 9-1 SS cog (single cog/sprocket) range around P500-P600, the kit with 2 cogs/sprocket is around P800-P1,000. DaBomb Tensioner is about P800 pesos(can't recall), while FireEye is P1,250.

Thanks lui and xero! Anyone selling used conversion kit and tensioner? I read somewhere you can use pvc pipe as spacers and old casette cog? What should be the lenght of the pvc to get a good chain line? Tama ba mga tanong ko? (trans:do i sound stupid?) Please help me out guys. Napapanaginipan ko na my bike is on SS already!

or yet better, ask lbs for discarded freewheel cogsets, dismantle them and get the spacers and the cog teeth of your choice if availability is scarce do it with your existing cogset. drill the rivets if its rivet type or unsrew the bolts if they are bolt on the small ones and you are well and good.
i do not dicourage you to have it fabricated but sometimes they just cost the same as the ready to use ones. use your middle chainring and your middle gear , that would be a good starting point .
now the next question is would you use a tensioner, i asked the price and it cost around Php 1150. before i forget your spacers will not suffice for a single speed set up you will be needing 2 sets. for pvs pipes you will need to buy the whole 10 feet just for a short length and thats a waste of money.
chainline, it is achieved by hanging the bicycle, and sighting it from the sprocket at the rear if it is aligned with the chain ring.
just like you cocoy, i wake in the middle of the night just to do adjust in my bicycles. dreams help a lot.

cocoy,
you can buy a set of brand new Fireye Singulator and Spur (tensioner) for less than 2k, I believe. check with Cycle Options or Raven Cycles (Ben) if they still do have them on stock. it's worth buying these as for sure, you'll love SS'ing...

lui,
I asked Ben already, he doesn't have stocks. I called Kings and they have da bomb 9-1 (Php1,000) and da bomb tensioner (Php650). Are the prices right or should I make tawad pa? I'll go there next week.
