Visibility on the road is zero but this did not stop us from having our regular Friday trail ride...it's in the nerve, in the system and it's our life... Three bike addicts on the way to Shawqa trail at 6:30 AM... Fog all over and at the trail... Three renegade riders... The hungry goats...(papaitan)... The adorable camels... The donkey... And the guy from Pepsi... The Shiekh at the peak of the mountain just before the old village... Boy... While on the way back home, MamaTi called us to remind us of the "party"...more pics to come...

Nice Weather to ride... What is the tire you're using for this kind of trail, loss rocks and sand I am using a Maxxis Ignitor LUST Tubeless...most of us use tubeless tires with good threads and knobs because of the condition of the trail. The rocks are not only lose but spiky.

Thanks for the Info... I notice there is no trees in the mountain. I feel it's a very hot invironment. Share your experience in riding the dessert. Do you need a lot of water. How far you can ride there The trails are 30 kms. long but there are trails which will take you more than 50 kms in one loop. We don't do a whole day trail ride as we need to go back to Dubai by lunch time because of other commitments. Unlike in the Phils., there are no sari sari store or a "carenderia" along the way and if there are stores, they are either closed for the day (weekend) or closed for Friday prayers. Best time to ride is November to March as it is the coldest part of the year. During these months, temperature is between 30 degrees C to as low as 15 degrees C. On the other hand, summer which starts from April to October is normally 36 degrees C and as hot as 45-46 degrees C. Indeed we need a lot of water as there is no way we can refill along the way as it is pure dry mountain. We do summer rides in the evening and once a week during the early hours of the morning. I still prefer the trails in our motherland though as I see in the pics which our PinoyMTBiker brothers have posted. Super homesick na kami!

Hi JessieC, I read your story. thanks for sharing... Just in case, if you broke your bike and no way you can use it. "like broken RD hanger", "Twisted Rims" or Broken Fork... It's a long way to walk or helicopter will rescue you

These animals are owned by the farmers and let loose. Nope, you can't just kill them and eat...you'll be imprisoned BUT you can buy them...
That's the reason why we don't leave any of our colleague...either the "victim" will have to walk or wait for the pick-up. We always ride safely and we are always aware of such situation. Thank God we have not encountered any major accident or mechanical breakdowns. We always see to it that our bikes are well maintained and ready for the next trail. Worst comes to worst, the local lespu are always ready to help and rescue...
Would you believe that in Dubai, if you have a flat tire on the road and you do not know how to change your wheel and it happens that the lespu passed by, they will fix it for you and keep you moving?

In that case, You can not ride alone in the trail, no one will know if you're lost... even you have a mobile phone, It may takes time to find you...
How about the Local Bike shop in Dubai? Are they good in terms of pricing and services....

Are they good in terms of pricing and services.... I have planned on riding alone but changed my mind. Even mobiles phones can't be used when you're on the trail. Well, LBS in Dubai don't have parts for sale. Enzo knew this and we normally approach him for parts or order on line. They may have a few parts for sale but nothing compares to the LBS in the Philippines. A few of these LBS owners in Dubai actually went to the Philippines and they were surprised to see how a Pinas LBS looks like - "punong puno daw". In Dubai, all you see are whole bikes, clothes, shoes but no parts on display...not even a frame on display...some of them actually source out the parts from Manila or Cebu LBS...

Which shop? Specialized? Wolfi's? Cannondale? Trek? Well, I have ordered a frame from Wolfi and it is delayed alright but it is coming this first week of December and that is my frame of choice and I am willing to wait. With regards to others - I have not purchased parts kasi mahal and as I said, I am not a hostage, if it is expensive then why should I not use my being an Ilocano? As far as I can remember, I bought several parts from you and I was unable to use my being an Ilocano but it is still better making "istambay" at Wolfi's because "white" ladies in short shorts come and go!
Well at Giant shop, I can see your legs (yaks) and that of Alex (more yaks)...no ladies in shorts (puro manang including Mamati)...
Tell me what happened to Raf123 so I can complain in his behalf...OT
OT again...how come you are now riding in Pinas at the range of 100 kms per ride more or less? Whereas, when you are with your ladies here in Dubai, you can only ride max. 25 kms and then make "tsismis" all day long? Hhhmmmm....

Let's forget about the shops and teach our friends how to buy properly, not just going into a shop and buying the first thing they laid their eyes om. And also ask members of our group, I mean older members of our group. Seek opinions and suggestions from experienced riders like you and me who have bought so many parts we dont know which one works or not ;D ; It's the same old trail we are riding so Im not tha motivated back there. Plus I have to take care of our "women" They dont want to ride longer and faster cos they reserve their strenght for other activities like cooking and housekeeping. Me, for laundry. ;D

This is not the right thread to talk about it, it's just that they all say the same thing "Im not any other nationality, or even I am, but why charge and treat me this way?" There's just so many complaints and even if Im here already, I still hear them or reach me. As I said, this is not the thread to talk about it and wish the aggrieved party will have the balls to talk it out. I would suggest they air their grievances on one of the threads here.

I suggest we should bring this out to a proper forum and not as a blind item...ok doki? Yeah!!! Alright!!!!! Now we are going somewhere. ;D All Ye Dubikers, Dubai Racers, PMTBerks!!!! Start listing your complaints and grievances and open up a thread here. Blind item my a$$! those who are victim of such acts should write it down and start being a man by speaking out and writing down what's right or wrong. Cyclist send me PM, ew-mail, sms, call and even sms me about their experience with such LBS so dont tell me about blind item Jessie. You are aware of this its just that you are not yet a victim or wont feel the pinch over a few dirhams. Sorry for the OT and Rant. Is the trail still craggy? What is the distance of visibility? How long is Boyskie in U.S.? Ang ganda ng FOX 08 ;D ;D ;D

Nope coz I asked for the price for the items I intend to purchase and if I can't afford it, I won't buy it. With the service fee, it comes from the heart. Yup, we need to encourage them to complain in the proper way if they are the aggrieved party. Hey guys do you have the balls? We can not be your lawyers forever...if you stand up and shout, eventually it will benefit all of us. Let us know your experience and let us see coz we are blind he he he...we can use our group to bargain for parts and service...if we feel that these bike shops will rob us of our dear money, why should we patronize them? Exercise your right as a customer.
Enzo, everyday is a foggy morning in Dubai since a week ago. Worst is 8 to 10 meters visibility (specially in our area at Jumeirah 3) and sometimes I have to stop driving as I can't really see anything. Yesterday's a little bit foggy and cold man. We are planning for an overnight camping again (by next week) both Dubai Racers and Dubaikers and few asungots (our wives are coming, my goodness!). Boy DI is supposed to be riding with us yesterday, he must have enjoyed Las Vegas so much...
Hoy Enzo, Fox F100 RLC 2008 yun ha!!! Any color basta white!

@ Enzo, sorry for my late reply and thanks for opening this TOPIC: regarding the new shop, a very "GOOD SHOP" daw.
it's the "SPECIALIZED" bike shop, staffed by fellow pinoys. Guys, what you have done to us will not benefit you and your shop at all. we go there to exchange my fork with my friend's and agreed to give my old manitou fork as payment, a deal simple as that! when job had done and my friend will take his bike after 5 days, they are asking AED70 additional service fee. small amount ok, but it seems na "naisahan" kami they didnt even fix both our front brakes, am lucky to reach cannondale the next day and fix my front brake at aed30 only!
Good brand name, shop is a stone away from the only Catholic church in dubai (St. Mary's) but service is not good, prices are sky high.

Forwarded your message to Philip...please open up a thread for this. We'll discuss this in the new thread. Both parties should be given a chance to speak up...we are all dedicated members of a cycling community and whether we like it or not, we will see each other on the trail...
