i'm not a guru or something but i remember reading somewhere in this section a post made by patrick (yata) that the first common mistake of peepz wanting to do trials is practicing trials on rigs which are not "trials-specific" (short seat tube and long chainstays? ). if my memory still serves me right, i read that you can never practice or perfect trials with those kind of rigs. am i saying it right patrick? which makes me want to ask this question, can GT chucker be set up as a trials-specific rig? dicslaimer: this post is not to point out what is wrong but is made just to give some information. please dont shoot me i'm just an XC rider

Maybe it's not the ride but the rider??? Just like in my case...I wanted to try trials years before but my physique seem to not allow it I'm small, my arms are short, my legs are short...hu..hu..hu..I noticed that those who excel in trials has very long arms and a bit on the "tall" side. Me I'm just 5'2" and even on a 13" mtb frame my trials skills never really progressed. I have a bikebuddy who stands around 5'6" using a veeery heavy gt chucker rig but can do bunnyhops and manuals on it like it's made of plastic tubes ;D Long arms and legs translates to leverage to easily lift the front wheel. You can always use a little pedal kick but this upsets your balance. Be careful in practicing...now my trials days are over...I think I twisted my wrists and broke some bones Btw, your rigs seems to look ok...how tall are you?

it's in the rider's discipline. learning trials need lotsa patience. even pure street riding too. it's a matter of experimenting what is the best of the best for you.
i have a riding buddy who started learning trials in his GT Chucker. he now has his own customized trials frame. ring a bell, eh?

jibber, being tall is just an advantage.
if you really want to do trial riding, build a trial-specific bike, a modified trial bike.
have you seen joelou vids? he's using mod bike.

thanks for the feed guys...i guess it's the rider...hehehe
Thanks noway, hope to ride with you sometime
hi Sir Arci correct me if I'm wrong but I have read somewhere in a trials website that a rider can do trials in an ordinary xc bike, but if you really wanna progress grab one trials-specific-bike. thanks for your points Sir... hey ewik i know who you're describing, it's jools ayt? you guys got skills, I got to ride with you together with the D5R riders, you guys are awesome...Got to get out and grab the bike.hehehe so i can rip bay walk like you guys...hahaha
hey paolo, just add me up ayt, nikko_cholo@yahoo.com
hey jibber I'm 5'6". I can do a little basics but I asume that the bike is limiting my learning co'z i got a chance to ride Patrick's and man it's so spacious and it's kinda light and smooth...thanks for the goodluck brad...
Would also like to add, I saw a trials-rider who teaches with a regular xc bike without a saddle, and I sometimes do that, it lightens my rig a bit..hahaha
thanks for all your feeds I really appreciated them...I guess I must rephrase this query with "Something wrong...with the rider" hehehehe
ride safe guys...trials rules

ewik...i don't want to learn pure trials actually, using trials specific bike...i just want to learn the basic skills and i think i already graduated ;D i was thinking of taking masteral lessons from you guys but i don't think i can handle it..due to too many personal reasons btw, hows Kris, aka KonaBlack, doing these days? nikkocholo...you're 5'6"...wow i envy you...i encourage you then to pursue learning trials...at my height...i can even show you some nice moves on that rig of yours...when KonaBlack and I started this part of the forum 3 or 4 years ago i was still using a gt avalanche2.0...it's all about technique as they say...think of weight shift...use your hips

how do i get started out in trials? what are the first things i should focus in learning?
first off, there are three to becoming a successful trials rider, they are:
Practice
Patience persistence
if you practice smart, and practice hard, youll learn whatever you are working on. but you have to be patient, it will often take a lot longer that you may think to learn that skill so that's why you have to be persistent , not give up!

Hey jibber thanks for your tips..I'll do that...Hope you show me some moves so I could learn from you...hehehe
Paolo I think I got the two at the bottom...but not quite often for the first...hehehe I only have an hour for weekdays, half day on saturdays and 2-4 hrs on sundays...
BTW I tried lifting my front wheel this morning and I got a tsamba but I never got it right but this time I feel a li'l bit control on it...I still need to watch more stuff doing back hops so I could learn some moves...
hope to ride with you guys

hi there brad that setup of yours is just the same as mine when i got started with trials, minus the rigid fork coz my wrist cant bear it yet... two wheel moves like trackstands, sidehops, side drops are easy on that frame... you just have to lean back more on your backwheel moves though... but the best part on that rig is when you do your super "give it all" bunnyhop. its stable on slow mo bunnyhops and its a plus factor if you want to go higher... enjoy your rig brad...
