I don't think any DH racer actually spends a lot of time, if any, on those 2 big, solid cogs. You're usually on the higher gears most of the time. I don't race but even freeriding, I don't use the 2 biggest cogs at all when hitting stuff. I only use those for climbing - an aspect of your riding that really doesn't need that kind of "strong" cog. I'm curious on why they came up with that idea, though.

One of my riding buddies' during a normal trail ride. Granted he is rough on his pedalling, but I still don't think that cog should break like that on the trail.

Wha! the chain didnt break!?! ... must be a chain tooth or metallurgical design flaw by SRAM got any pics or links to that component wreckage? I suggest they get the secret metal blend of Shimano then ;D ;D heheh

Unfortunately, we don't have pics of it. For one, my buddy was so p!ssed off that we just wanted to straighten his bent hanger so we could continue riding ;D. I guess that's why I like Shimano cassettes ;D.

yes were still using what is available in th lbs, shimano's road or mtb sprockets
the shimano 105 road cassette 8 gears can be separated by removing the 3 pins
for custom gearing.
