I'm new in this group. Just want to know what was the biggest Cash Prize given for a downhill competition here in the Philippines? And how much would any skilled, daring, determined novice or pro rider pay for registration in a downhill competition if the organizers (including me) would award Php 100,000.00 for 1st prize, Php 50,000.00 for 2nd, and Php 25,000.00 for 3rd.

WOW!!!!!
Biggest cash prize was Hans Gee's race in Iloilo for 20,000 for first place, not sure how much for the rest of placings.
If you can extend the cash prize to the top ten riders, then i would think that 500.00 to 750.00pesos would be the most sensible amount to charge.

Yes, it will be well organized, 2 to 3 days, parties at night, full of sponsors, full media coverage, etc. But i think registration less than 1k doesn't hit the spot. We're thinking of something higher but the participants will get something of value, aside from his right to join the competition, and whether or not he wins, he will still be able to get back his costs of registration, sort of a win-win situation for everybody. No losers.

i think that having a P100k cash prize is great, but not if you're going to raise it from the registration fees. realistically, there are maybe 10 people who have a chance of getting the top 3 places, everyone else will be joining for fun or for the experience, and they may not be willing to pay more then P1k (even that's steep, frankly).

Nope, the cash prizes will not come from registration fees. That i can assure. Sounds fishy huh. Anyway, it's all on the drawing board still. We need your comments and suggestions. By the way, true that maybe 10 riders have a chance to grab the top 3 prizes, but this competition is also open to international bikers too don't forget. So, I certainly hope that more pinoys will join the race.

hmmm,,, raising the pot money to that height means you need BIGTIME sponsors w/c should be the president of the philippines, senators, d' ayala's, zobel's, ortigas family, yuchenco's, casino filipino, and don't forget the DRUGLORDS and the Infamous JueTENG Lords. medical: Coordinate with the SWEEPSTAKES OFFICE or ABS-CBN's lingkod bayan :::: Sounds really funny ei? hope that races to come or people organizing this events would plan everything very carefully. we love to enjoy and compete but please take good care of us....

I agree with sir nono, maybe you should extend the prize money to the top 10 finishers. It will definitely lure the best riders from all over the country.... I dont expect to win but if you say there are lots of freebies, Im willing to pay P1,000 to join!

Dudes,
biggest cash prize so far was 1996 race in samal island davao.Php 25,000 1st prize downhill. It was won by Yamaha/Shell motocross rider Jing Leongson.Less than P25 to a dollar during those days,so it's pretty big. The race was a blast! Big party, lots of food and accomodation,i don't think they can duplicate that!:-) Yup, it's better to spread out your funds for the race, more races, more happy racers!

i'd think better to spread the prize money -- even so by considering more categories and race events so more winners.
and yes, lower the reg fee so that more riders will want to join.
particularly if they know their chances are slim... what else did you have in mind for a 2-3 day event?
is it 100k just for pro? plus open to intl racers? so less chances of more pinoys in the top 10?

quiesledaddy,
Sea otter 06 has no match with 03&05. It was raining everyday in CA so they didn't push thru with the 4x,dirt jump,xc long and short track was shortened and slalom and dh is a mud-bath!:-)Anyways,race registrations was (i think) 20% cut lower for more racers to participate. Actually our race registration here sa pinas is mile-lower compare stateside if you do convertion. Php 1,000.00/race,seems like you are paying P5,000 in four days of racing. No jerseys no food yun!:-) That's is why pot-money is big because of the "paying-racers" and "galant-sponsors" ;D The pro-ranks here is getting bigger,we should think about how they can benefit from a race to make it more exciting. Stateside, the pros like Lopes, carter, peat, graves etc. review very keenly the courses they race on. Ang tagal simulan kasi pinag-aaralan pa nila yung course! >:(Nag-reretoke pa sila ng "landings" nila. And to think they are paid GOOD! Local racers natin just blast-down what tracks they are given to them,no ifs no buts, tirahin na yan! ;)To me,we are the "better racers."

we've never organized a mtb competition before so definitely, we'll be needing help from those experienced. Your comments and suggestions are all noted. My company is already looking in my proposal for holding such an event.

please make race organization your first priority. parties, bands, big cash prizes etc are all great but this is a race first and foremost. it's more difficult to run then people seem to realize, based on the number of races i've seen and participated in (the manila leg of the san mig ligt pro tour for example). i suggest you contact people like gozo larrazabal (tlbf), raul cuevas (powerbar), eric imperio (extribe) among others and hire the people they use. the powerbar tour for instance, uses the same peole that run the Tour Pilipinas. the extribe group has handled triathlons, cross country races and time trials (which is essentially what a downhill race is) and they have a very efficient timing system. good luck! i hope you guys can pull it off! we've never organized a mtb competition before so definitely, we'll be needing help from those experienced. Your comments and suggestions are all noted. My company is already looking in my proposal for holding such an event.

tyler, "the King" is very right! A very organized race--venue,spectator-friendly,reasonable fees, good & reasonably priced food, good & fair officiating,in-sync marshalls, good logistics, well advertised, etc etc. The prices are just bonuses. A lot of racers will be happy. It doesn't have to be big, less is more,if you're in control! di ba mr. zalvaje??!

or how about.....much better if P100k pinoy freeride challenge! riders submit their videos ala race face, i think it will compensate rider who will join and risk their limbs who will do the stunt.
registration free
want to see pinoy doing road gaps, under a passing train or provincial bus, it will revolutionize pinoy mtbiking.
.....just my wild dreams..
REDBULL here is basketball oriented sucks hehehe
thats why i drink extra joss...
(extra joss P100k freeride challenge?) hehehhe joke
next will be a pinoy crankworks festival!

Tyler, I read the thread and international bikers is also allowed to join. To attract more foreigner to join the race, this price money is perfectly enough. Last time when we join the race with international bikers, the champion price cost USD3500.00. If this race will happen, this is the biggest MTB festival in the Philippines... I hope this will be well organized...
