A lot of endurance athletes use soda as a carbo drink because of it's high sugar content. A 16 oz can of regular soda has an average of 41 grams of sugar, plus about 80 grams of caffine. While this can give you a good energy boost while you're on your bike on a long ride or running for over an hour, it's going to give you a gut if you're sipping on it while you're on your computer surfing the internet

dirtmonkey is right.
The sugar in colas will give you a quick boost during endurance events. But it's just that- and it won't last.
It's also not a good idea to treat Gatorade as a household beverage like colas. I know people who drink iced Gatorade while watching TV. Man, all those calories!

want something better than soda? try milk chocolate drink! yummmy brad , I'm not so sure about that Milk I believe is very hard to digest Sugar mabilis, in fact too fast But if you just bonked in the mountains, find your nearest sarisari and get a cola and crackers Sugar will charge you up , and the caffeine will keep you alert enough to avoid falling off your bike

The sugar will get you really hyped up, no question about it. But once absorbed it will give you an all time low that will affect your performance.

correct me if i'm wrong but sugar in soda is just one of many types/forms of carbohydrates...our body needs carbo..read somewhere that around 70% of our calorie intake should be carbo...i guess as long as don't drink too much of it, its just fine.
personally i dont care much about the sugar in it...after a long climb under the heat of the sun..and you feel like you're burning...dang! walang pinaka refreshing than an ice cold coke...sige sayo na yung mainit na tubig mo sa water bottle. ;D

alphabolt.... thats cuz in every barangay or barrio or any pinoy settlement there are an average of 3-5 sari sari stores..... and most of our trails here are singletrack access roads for the residents of the far-flung place.... hehehehe..
......... thats prolly why diabetics are now thinner or slimmer.....to much sugar...

And for those of you who need an energy drink in a hurry... you can always use your favorite juice mix and just add a pinch of salt.
Juice mix, mind you, not those ice tea kuno concoctions, since tea extract is a diuretic and you'll end up being more dehydrated than usual. Hehehe.
