i think thats exactly the idea...if the body can learn to metabolize fat then i dont see why it can't with carbo...we are the most widespead specie in the world proving our adaptability maliban siguro sa ipis hmm..diet of just meat..i believe thats possible too..if your body can adopt...those who believe in the vegetarian diet believe they can survive too without meat ayan dehins ko alam. about kamote, i think i saw a short film about some natives of aurora..they fish though..most of them are skinny except for that of their tribal leader..marunong pa mag ingles ;D some tribes in some parts of luzon kamote rin..i'm sure lots peeps here heard of it also. I think we should do this over coffeeTolits , I metabolized enough fat kakatype hehe

I dont know how much percentage of the worlds population will survive if we take away rice ;D all Asians eats rice and thats a huge number. Billions of Chinese alone, how about the Indians, they are rice eaters too. And to think that they reach this number may say something about their reproduction Everytime Europeans join us in our rides, come eating time, they said that they are amaze at how much rice we eat, and how fast we burn them. They said that even regular people they saw when they do workshops there in the Phils. I have a German godson(inaanak sa kasal, Tanda ko na talaga) he said that our digestive system ek ek is different from them due to different factors such as weather, availability of the food, etc. He was amazed at how we survive on the ratio of rice and viands we eat. Now, married to a Pinay, He eats rice as much as I do and his tummy balooned also. But he said that he doesnt feel anything different when he was a meat and potatoe eating guy before and rice eater now. Still the same power during the rides. He actually monitors everything and transfer them in his computer. Its the way we utilize the food for energy daw ;D ;D ;D (dehins ko alam yun ah) I just eat and eat and ride. But his final word is, I could actually make my tummy smaller but I just love rice that much with adobo and Red Horse beer ;D ;D ;D So moderation is the only word here. I think the things we take something in like Booze, food, cigarette, coffee, etc even in some aspects of our lives like riding or sex? The dosage, portion or frequency heightens coz we got used to it or get adidcted. Even spices. Lets just think how our forefathers survived before. They hunt, pure meat. They gather grains, pure carbo. And no alcohol And we are the result. OT 4 YEARS AGO, My wife is 10kilos overweight and I bought her a spin trainer. Rode it 1 to 2 hour a day, lose 12 kilos, become so sexy i got her pregnant again. She said that she eats the same amount of food sometimes even more than when she was not cycling. FYI, The IRRI, Intl Rice Research Institute is based in Los Banoz, They produced a super rice which the Indians are eating now. Resistance to pest, easy to grow, and the grain is slightly bigger than the regular rice we eat. Hi! Gadgets

I re-read the article entitled DON"T EAT TOO MUCH RICE Keith posted and I couldn't agree more!
The problem is not rice. The problem is the situation.
We all grew up poor once. Some are growing poorer by the day even. That being said, we all know how it is to be hungry, what's it like to starve.
The natural reaction is to load up on rice (because it's cheap). Ordering extra ulam (viands) is expensive. Loading up on rice isn't enough, we sometimes overload. Overload your tummy often enough and it starts to enlarge. Then there's beer. Same logic. Overload your tummy with beer. What you get is a beer belly.
Get that bloated feeling too often, (hahanap hanapin mo na) it becomes a habit.
Kids with swollen bellies too young for beer are usually infested with worms. They should take tikitiki vitamins (or something to kill off the worms).
So eating too much rice is indeed bad. Anything too much is.
Question: if less rice means you don't get that bloated feeling. That's good. If you want to feel bloated all the time, find a psychiatrist.
In place of bread and rice, what are the options? I'd go for lugao with kamote in noodletown, I do this, alternate with rice for lunch every other day. I'd go for corn and carrots on those western dishes (KennyR, Chili's, Fridays). I'd go for yam, ube, or microwaved potato at home.

You guys love rice w/ a passion! Just curious , what's the secret to eating in moderation? I'd like to do it but cant I keep hearing it dito sa board In tagalog , pano nyo napipigilan kumain ng madami ? Because If you have a really practical answer that can be used by the ahem heavyweights , you'll be a millionaire sir it's more on the mental side for me... that's why I turn into a 200pounder from an atlethecally 136lbs. mostly in all buffet it seems they could talk and I can here them say eat me!!!! eat me!!!!... I taste good, promise... since I'm just a man who is weak from temptation, I eat a lot... but in other things I can do this moderation thing... like in alcohol intake... just 2-3 bottles and I'm done... moderation really helps mostly our liver... one thing I know that doesn't to be moderated is the intake of water (just don't be stupid to drown yourself) and oxygen (don't over react by bringing your own tank of liquified O2) mostly the air that's around in places with lots of trees, aren't they refreshing to inhale??? because this two help us into bringing waste products out of our system...thats what I think....

ok peeps...going back to the topic of rice...this time i will not be joking promise ;D from the moment i read it ito agad napansin ko..the problem with the article it failed to consider the adaptability of human being or if i maybe allowed to say lahi (race) or type of people...its too general that as if all the peoples of the world have the same diet or eating habit. even here, in some parts of the philippines rice is not the staple food...my parents back in the days used to eat grounded corn instead of rice in negros...i even heard of an area where the staple is kamote (sweet potato) dehins naman sila ututin ...now, why not try to eat kamote for your lunch i read a magazine article about a couple of years ago regarding a study...there's this isolated italian village where the people are known for their diet of pizza, meat, pasta and all those greasy food...yet almost none of them seem to suffer from heart or other related cardio vascular deseases...they found out there is something common with the people there..their DNA..those food dont have an adverse effect on them..those who suffer illnesses due to the food, they found out, were not originally from the place. the tibetans staple meat comes from yak...they drink its fat rich milk too...heck! the tibetans make candles out of its fat..thats the truth peeps yet they too dont suffer from heart problems etc. so whats the moral? if the food makes you ill, avoid it..if not, dont. just my two cents. I love you brad... you hit the bulls eye with three darts...

I've been living here in US for 12 yrs and im still eating rice every day. My kids prefer rice and pinoy foods because its taste better.Everytime we visit the Phil.,we always bring back a lot of pinoy food(ulam) for rice and pinoy"chichiria/snacks" like ding dong and kumander bawang.I prefer rice and pinoy ulam like adobo/"aroz caldo con manok" as my training diet and pre-ride carbo loading.Rice rocks!!

Yo allegra! Good to find a kindred spirit here... I stopped eating rice two years ago, and guys, it didn't make me weaker at all. No carbo/energy shortage in those trail rides, maarat climbs, 10k runs, judo/wrestling competitions I've been part of. Tinderas in carinderias always find it hard to believe when I say "wala pong rice"... am always the center of conversation during meals with people always curious why (and how!) I eat without rice. Short explanation: ask why they eat rice! Walang lasa, walang sustansya... it's because we just grew up eating it, people around us eat it, and so we think how could they be wrong? So the article doc.kate posted says there's some nutrients in rice... well we could get them, and loads and loads more, from other more nutritious food. The fact is, very few of us consume enough veggies. Eat enough of those green leaves and you have enough carbo for an ordinary day. Yun. Try nyo

i eat rice once a day (for lunch and i eat lots of it) with some ulam. for the evenings, i just eat veggies. i don't think i can go riceless. the carbs/sugar from rice gives me energy for my twice a days (run and bike)... i don't think rice is bad as long as you burn it off...

You wanna look good in the podium. Just my 2 cents

Corn is better than white rice Corn vs brown rice = corn pa din sa mahal ng brown rice if you feel you'll die w/out white rice , then eat your meal on a saucer That's the limit. It wont make you full , yet mawawala hunger Then eat again when your hungry That way , hopefully you eat only what you burn But that's still feeding yourself regular gas and not high octane then ride a century Why make it difficult , take herbalife ( shameless plug )

try eating your favorite viand with your so called rice substitutes and brag to the entire rice eating population that it tastes better than the traditional rice...
OT: in culinary arts, that is what you call flavor paring...

FYI's
its not what you eat, its how you eat... its in your lifestyle... and many more...
we pinoy's tend to eat very fast... as in seems like the winner gets a prize... (another round of what he just ate).. the concept of galit- galit muna tayo lalo na sa mga salo- salo... (doesnt mind everyone when he eats)
europeans eat MORE than we do... but they just DO NOT EAT, they DINE... they savor every flavor of the food, relaxes, breathes with rhythm, chats with who's with them
filipinos are lazy walkers... they will just go in the other other street, they will have ride their motorize vehicles rather than walk...
not so many filipinos are fond of exercise. while we are figure, body, appearance conscious, we DONT like to sweat... we like to rely on those crash diets, no exercise regimens, diet pills, etc
a typical filipino meal is not a meal w/o rice...
we eat sooooo many meals... breakfast, merienda, lunch, merienda, coffee/ yosi break , merienda y cenda, dinner, couch potato pika-pika, midnight snack, no- one saw me eat that dinner left- overs... and more...

as a filipino... i was raised by a rice eating family... now i have my own family, still eating rice... I hope someday that this kind of rice, specifically the "Brown Rice" that we had at Sir Dranrev's place would be cheaper because it cost around 50Bucks...much more expensive than our everyday sparkling white variety... it taste better for me... less on sugar, good for rice lovers...

Here's a solution, it has rice, it has corn, it had eggs, it has meat (fish, pork, shrimp, crab, etc), it has vegetables (carrots, cabbage, green peas, corns, etc.), it has fat (vegetable or animal oil or butter), it has salt and spices. What is it? Yang-Chow Fried Rice... and we can have side dishes to go along with it. ;D
