Again?
Scars of a warrior na talaga.
I read this post of Gadgets88 re chinese medicine we can buy at Chinese boticas. I remember McVarki scraped his elbow after nasty spill going down AFP. EdLee ata or was it Bikester applied this water melon color green powder. Viola...powder absorbed the bleeding...wound healed fast.
This green powder is a must for us to bring to our stash of first aid kit.

wasabe? hehe
i think i read it was powdered pakwan seeds?
by the way, after applying the ointment, whatever it is, cover the whole area with breathable mesh gauze and lightly secure it using paper tape. redress every 2-3 days, cleaning with betadyne first. the wound should stay moist and not scab until it heals. (i'm just remembering the instructions i was given while my own wounds were healing).

Try "second skin" type of dressing. I have great results with TEGADERM and DUODERM for road rash. Tegaderm is like a transparent glad wrap that you use on abrasions. It will provide a moist environment for healing and you can leave it on for 2-5 days. When you remove it, you will just see new pink skin without any scabs. Duoderm is thinker gel type of dressing. You can use it for bigger and deeper wounds. It will also stay on for 3-5 days and is quite effective for joint type wounds like knee wounds (I used this dressing for my La Mesa knee injury). The dressing will retain moistness and absorb it into a gel within the dressing. When you take it off, it will also reveal new pink skin. It's good to bring some of these dressing on the trail since it will immediately provide protection from infection and stop pain since it will seal all exposed nerve endings and numb the sensation of pain. Only downside is expense. Tegaderm goes for around PhP200 for 8 pcs while Duoderm goes for PhP120 per piece. Check this out: sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/injuries/a/abrasions.htm

by the way, jon, how did it happen? i was using my newly built merida hardtail. went to marat for a short spin. rained a bit going home. we were at giant at that point. road section where it gets twisty, descending, a few meters before you get to the offroad section. risk was somewhat calculated. i admit not using brakes on this section. 2 things could've happened: the road was slippery or the skewer on my front wheel wasnt tight enough becoz it was short by 2 or 3mms. i think the latter did it. i really felt my front wheel twitch and that was it. in fact, when we got to the offroad section, darn wheel was ready to leave my fork. it was making noises everytime i hit harsh terrain. to my dismay, indeed, the skewer was loose. shite! it really demoralizes you. knowing you've been through that section a lot of times and you know what to do and then kablam! road accidents are the most dangerous in my opinion. i'd rather crash on offroad 5 times rather than crash on road 1 time.

Check this out: sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/injuries/a/abrasions.htmthanks for this solid piece of advice. it really rang a bell when i went to mercury. unfortunately the other brand i was supposed to use was phased out: svfratuole. so i had to go and try tegaderm but it was too small so i had to try duoderm which is 4" x 4" which just fits me fine. its comfy and relieved me of pain and the sticky ooze flowing out of my wound is manageble. unfortunately it melted quickly. too much liquid substance oozing from my wound, it wasnt able to retain or maybe i was moving too much to the point that it got peeled off at some point releasing the ooze. it even smells bad, the ooze thing. i dont even want to look at it. thank god my wife is around to do all the dirty work, hehehe. im thinking of repacking the whole wound with duoderm becoz a third of it got melted. should i or should i not? the rest of the wound is doing fine that's why im hesitant. a poll perhaps? ;D

That "ooze" is normal during the first days of the wound. You need to be more careful with moving around. What I did was to put a gauze pad on top of the Duoderm to absorb the ooze that seeped out of the duoderm. This would save you money until the flowing of the fluid is more manageable. After 2-3 days, the duoderm will be able to control the ooze and keep it inside. Hope you heal soon! BTW, you no longer in Acquire? Don't see you anymore in the area....

Sorry Jon, I didn't know it was phased out already. Though some smaller pharmacies I think still have it in stock....Maybe they found out that it causes Testicular cancer or sterility ;D ;D ;D - joke.
In my experience, daily wound dressing is still the key. Especially for wounds secreting copious malodorous fluid - eeewwww! ;D

ronald, always aggressive me. just waiting for these wounds to recover. i just cant take the fact that what happened to me is a mechanical failure. i'd love to be the weakest link but never my bike. its just not the proper equation i guess. gadgets, i cant even look at my own wounds, hehehe. good thing duoderm covers it up completely. jaymz, ok lang. i just look at the brighter side of things like what if i was side swiped by the bus? good thing damage to property lang, hehe. but of course it kind of hits me. kaya nga for the mean time, i wont be using any vehicle for the mean time. in fact makiki-hitch lang ako kay kaloi or pete going to binondo for some food and alcohol, hehe. thanks for being concerned. rest assured i'll be back on my feet and no excuses.

Must be pretty deep to experience that much ooze. I'm glad you're ok otherwise. Get well soon and back on the bike. That's probably the worst part... not riding.
Sorry I can't help on remedies... I've heard/read too much contradictory data and am now confused on what to do. Let us know your progress and your method of treatment.

Glad it worked for you, too! It's really a miracle of technology, right? No more pain from that daily cleaning with the old gauze treatment. Just clean with soap and water and slap on the Duoderm and forget about it. Take a bath, ride the bike.... do almost everything for a few days. Take a bath and remove it while showering and ... pink skin!
