i don't know if it has been discussed here. if it is, just point me to the thread. what food do you ususally eat before, during, after rides?
i usually eat bananas in the evening before going to sleep and in the morning (if there's any) before the ride. during the ride i bring along a granola or oatmeal bar and 'boy bawang' (contains lots of salt and MSG, hehe) and coupled with a mix of sunbolt drink. any better ideas or suggestions? or just simply post what you eat. thanks.

i usually eat 2 to 3 bananas before a ride(1 hour) together with a bar of Cloud 9...then drink lots of water. ;D
During rides, i don't eat unless we pass by a sari-sari store.buy a softdrink and 1 Rebisco chocolate crackers just to subside the hunger.... enough for the after-ride meal.... GOTO!!!! hehehehe! ;D

A high carbohydrate meal three to four hours before exercise is thought to have a positive effect on performance. A small snack one to two hours before exercise may also benefit performance. Some people's blood glucose levels may react negatively to eating close to exercise – it varies between individuals.
The pre-event or exercise meal should be easily digestible, high carbohydrate, low fat, low fibre and known not to cause gastrointestinal upset. Examples include fresh fruits and juices, muesli bars (without the chocolate coating), bread, toast, cereal with low fat or skim milk.
Contrary to popular belief, consuming sugary foods or drinks just before a sporting event doesn't boost your energy levels.
It might be a good idea to eat some carbohydrate during exercise to top up blood glucose levels and delay fatigue. Like sweets (without chocolate) and sandwiches made with white bread, are ideal. Sports drinks and very diluted cordial or fruit juice deliver both carbohydrate and fluid to the body.

when me and my wife(gf pa lang b4 & friends) were still heavy into biking we usually had some sort of pasta in the evening and bananas with coffee in the morning and about 500 to 1000mg of amino acids, our ride drink was either gatorade or water with a touch of calamansi and honey.and granola bars or crackers for snacks during.after the ride.... well anything goes, but usually it was pizza or chicken.

me, hmm...carbo loading a day or two before a ride. for very early morning rides, i just bring a cracker and lots of water. if i get home before 9, i eat pan de sal and drink milo, the sugar lessens the pain in my muscles (just a theory). if i go home by lunch, i just eat lunch. a banana if i'm lucky enough.... @brad micosabeh, hmm...depends, if you get to depend on black coffee, you might end up having palpitations like what my boss is having now.
