I noticed that bikers have their custom mixes for their "baon" drinks
Some put water into their hydro packs and Extra Joss in their water bottles..combos, etc/
What s your drinking/hydration style: 1. pre Ride 2.i at Ride (XC) 2.ii at Ride (DH) 3. at Stops along the trails 4. post Ride

For yr info, water just doens't enough to rehydrate you properly. Most active people to drink enough to stay well dehydrated. I usually bring more of a flavored beverage (gin or beer ;D ;D joke only) than plain water. Water contain no carbohydrates and cannot help refuel tired muscles. Carbohydrate play an important role in fueling worn muscle and can aid athletic performances when it really counts. Water contain no electrolytes and therefore like sodium and potassium that are lost in sweat. Water "turn off" the thirst mechanism b4 the body is completely dehydrated. Hope this help.

MBAction? laced with Joss or Gatorade...or just water? read it somewhere, most likely mbaction.the idea is not to wait til you feel and get thirsty bec. once you've felt thirsty, thats the first sign of getting dehydrated and its your body saying "im getting dehydrated!!!" before,i put extra joss in my water.helps a lot.gives a good taste as well.lately its just plain water,

even pro cyclists drink coffee before a ride I think they do it for the caffeine kick. if you want the kick, after drinking coffee or caffeinated drinks, maybe we should load up on water?

I take coffee 1 hr. before any ride with some light food and lotsa water post-coffee. Yeah, I read somewhere that pros drink coffee prior to rides. DonB also has program that involves coffee and pastries...ask him na lang though So, what else goes into your: 1. Hydro pack? 2. Water Bottle (other than water ..duh ;D) ?

How about iced tea, not, or calamansi juice to give a good boost of asim hehehehe
Pomelo juice is good for post ride, brings back a lot of lost water...( I think )
Basta, lots of juices, natural drinks is good...
Extra Joss, drink before the ride...

But I do put em in there despite whatever warnings Flavored drinks=beki! then we are all badings! ;Dheheh They can all eat my dust if they call us that brad ahahay! going back to the topic... rehydation/drinking is important for cyclists.. specially when you are under the sun. I read that power drinks i.e. gatorade is needed and is important only if you will have more than an hour of exercise... bikers usually do it for very long hours.. sometimes halos half day pa! Gatorade and other power drinks claims to be better than plain H2O, coz they have minerals and sugar/carbo that our body need during the time of strenous activity. They are also absorbed faster than plain H2O. You can make custom drinks( they are much cheaper, and you can have your own flavor) provided that the sugar concentration is about 8% that would be roughly 3 tablespoons then place a pinch of salt. I prefer my juice "matabang" so i place 1 tbsp of powdered juice to 2 tbsp of sugar. place it in a 500ml gatorade bottle, then fill it up with cold H2O. ayos! nga lang you don't have the "minerals" ... I think you can use Oresol Instead.. complete with minerals.. tho the flavor is plain. or maybe there is an oresol for kids (bubble gum flavor?) If you are not competing, then maybe plain water or the custom mix may be enough. btw I call my custom mix Coolangotade.. heh heh heh (maalat alat kasi)

Water , bananas , powerbars/gels , skyflakes , panucha are fine w/ me. I couldnt feel any difference during century rides, triathlon , 10k runs blah blah ( poewr gels rock! )
Hey. I've read the fantastic benefits of rehydration drinks too. Yep, on their advertisements If they can make them as cheap as water , maliligo me sa gatorade

Yep, on their advertisements If they can make them as cheap as water , maliligo me sa gatorade there is this instant power drink that I saw sa grocery yesterday.. It's in powder form, you dissolve it in cold water.. I forgot the name- but look for it near gatorade. I saw it in SM Megamall, i think its 6 packs and costs around P45 or so . costing per pack is almost P7.50 as opposed to gatorade. there are 2 flavors: lemon and orange. I have not tried it yet. I'll try buying one and keep you posted ;D btw my "coolangotade" is less than 6 pesos per 500 ml.. lots of flavor too.

My water bottle contains: 1.5 liter water juice from 5 to 7pcs calamansi (10pcs is just too maasim) 2 tablespoon sugar (honey would be much better) a pinch of iodized salt Btw, read somewhere that due to a new study about hyponatremia...it is advised that athletes don't drink unless thirsty...especially those who are slow or at the back of the leadpack

Which article and mag did you read that brad?

brad the name of the drink is SUNBOLT, around 45 pesos per box of six packs. Just add to your water bottle with 500 ml of water- don't forget to shake.I tried the lemon, tastes OK. Brought some yesterday when I went up maarat. The sourness is just right, seems to wipe out my thirst in my mouth better that water alone. My verdict: SUNBOLT has a couple of flavors ( lemon and orange ) that I found. I dunno if there are more. If the limited choice flavors doesn't bore you, I'll say this is economical as compared to Gatorade. You can buy Gatorade then reuse the bottle with this drink, I think it is 500 ml. HTH
