Those facts has been required by the gov. so that people will know what's in the food inside the package like its fat contents, sodium, cholesterol, carbo, protein and any vitamins it may contain. It also tell us about how much calories it has per serving. In reading this nutrition facts, dont miss the part that tells "amount per serving". It's very important because all those data that we read are for the serving specified and not for the whole package.

part of the US FDA regulations that you should know what you are eating... including where they're getting it from... partly for the self conscious of the calorie count and to keep track of the minerals and other electrolytes that can cause more harm than you know if you go overboard. e.g. sodium, potassium, iron, vitamin A,D,E and K... the list is long. but in a normal human diet.. its rather hard to over dose on these... just that some people do tend to consume too many supplements

Tama! It also tell you the ingredients and preservatives used. So consumers have the wide variety of choice in purchasing canned, bottled, packed and preserved products. Lately, there has been some issues on a certain preservative "Sudan ......." here in the UK which is actually unsafe for human consumption. It was actually the consumer groups who found this out. So, always check out the labels.

now, how accurate are these labels? is there a law that will punish the product maker for inaccurate labels? way back, there was a a study and report on powdered baby milk. several big brands even failed the accuracy test. the report stated that some minerals and vitamins on their labels were not only inaccurate but at times were non existent or so low to be significant to a baby's health. hmn, nagka-duda tuloy ako.
