I'm just wondering how many of us use masks/filters whenever we ride going to the trailhead. If ever, what do you use? I've been using Respro techno masks since I started and am still amazed at how much pollution it filters - especially when using the Marcos Hiway.

i know i should probably use one, but maybe b/c i smoke the fumes don't bother me that much. and except for the infrequent city ride i do with some of the guys here on sundays, i usually road bike when the traffic flow is very light, like late at night

Using Respro na rin.
It took a while to get used to but it's worth the added effort coz it filters out most of the fumes sa kalye.
I wonder if the increased effort in breathing makes your lungs stronger and will help increase your VO2max.

finally got an air filter...sort of like a a compulsive buy at a bike shop last sunday hehehe, yung setlaz na neoprene ba...ok pala. suddenly i found myself more "intimate" with my lungs and how i breathed
but best thing was, i was breathing (at least 95% of the time) nice, clean-smelling charcoal-filtered air ;D ;D ;D

Good to hear that Gulli, si Boyok pala naka mask na rin. It takes some getting used to but I think it's worth the hassle.

Guys how old are your filters na ba? sa packaging ng setlaz, every 6 months pakuluin mo lang daw ang filter...guess that's to reactivate the carbon anyway have washed my filter only once pa lang after 4.5 hrs of use...ok lang ba to? are your filters coming apart na ba? either way, sure, would be glad to pool w/ u for replacement filters as long as i don't have to buy more than 3-5 at a time

Soaked my filter in boiling water once. Kaya lang naging malagkit yung feel ng filter so dehins ko na inulit.
It looks soiled now pero lakas pa rin magfilter.

Boyok, I'm not sure kung pwedeng i-boil yung filter ng Respro - that's what I remember. We have to change them every 60 hours of use.
Gulli, I'm not that familiar with Setlaz filter but from what I heard is that you are supposed to boil them once in a while - I think to remove the pollution/dirt more than to activate the charcoal.
I would be glad to get a discount in Triumph but would they do that with only 2 of us buying, Boyok?
Anyway, I might no go to Palawan this weekend and might be able to join one of the rides here in Manila...see you in the trails.

wala ng respro sa velo, sabi pa ni hermie di na daw gumagawa ang respro. funny that, i just saw respro's website
wala na din kay paulina's. She's going to contact her supplier to order some.
kina ross naman, setlaz lang ang available, 1000 pesos.
i'll go to caloocan motorbikeshops tomorrow, 10th ave., maybe they have it there.
any leads will be available, thanks!

triumph is the only shop that sells respro and sportsta and techno masks retail at a whopping 1,970.00!

Face masks?
I've got a crazy idea- how about cleaner air???
Just got back from Dehli, India. They have incredibly cleaned up the air by changing all public transport to LNG.
So, until that day, I guess the other option is to ride that nice single-track buried far away from roads!

i'm glad i read this post. the worst thing about mountainbiking is the smoke you inhale WHILE heading for the clean-air trail.
has anyone experienced tailing a smoke-belching tricycle on a road hill? double damage because you'll be breathing a lot because it's uphill and the tricycle will be belching a lot too.
i was reluctant in buying one because i don't know if bikers generally use them. now that i know that alot do, i'm getting one now

Yep, been going to UP from Fairview via Commonwealth and its very HARD to breathe! Especially when those big old busses cut from the right to the bike lane. Waa!
But 1k for air filter is too much for me. Anyone tried the cheap cloth-type mask? or the traffic-lespu man-metro-aide type filter? Or how about surgical masks?
