so i just sent an email to info@crankbrothers.com. i sent them this email which took me half an hour to compose, hehehe ;D hi! i recently noticed my eggbeater c pedals felt like it needs to be repacked because it felt grainy and it spins faster than the usual, obvious signs i need to have it repacked because the grease might have dried up, i guess. as i was about to remove the plastic caps/screws on the pedals' grease port, i noticed that the slit where you're supposed to use a flat screw driver is kinda faded or has disappeared. so i'm thinking of replacing the caps but i don't know where i can get a set. i actually own 2 pairs of eggbeater C's so i might as well look for replacements for my other pair as well. any ideas where i can find these caps? i bought these pedals here in the Philippines. i bought my first pair in 2005 and the second, in 2006. they actually look like the same. i bought them, here at a local bike store but the store doesn't sell spare parts or accessories for these pedals. so where can i buy those plastic caps for my eggbeaters if i live here in Manila, Philippines? also, are there special tools that i need to have the pedals repacked? do you recommend a particular grease to use for repacking the pedals? i actually haven't repacked them ever since i bought them so this would be my first time. though i would like to get those caps first before i do any work on the pedals. also, where can i find some spare parts for my pedals just in case i see problems with internals of the pedals? and where do i find cleats as well? my first pair is toast . thank god i have 2 pairs of cleats since i own 2 pairs of eggbeaters. so far, my second pair is still fresh but pretty soon, it will end up like the first one. i hope you guys can help me on this one. these are the best pedals i've tried on and i hope i can still use them. thanks. jose ledesma jr. let's see what happens. i'll keep you guys posted.

I repacked egg beaters for a friend a couple of years ago. From what I remember, you don't need any special tools (like you do for Shimano pedals) other than some standard metric wrenches (a vise is nice to hold the pedal up while rebuilding). If your pedal has grease ports, you don't even have to take it apart. Just squirt some grease in it (I used a small syringe to squirt grease into the port).

jon palusot ka pa. the newer repair pedal kits are available at VeloCity as well the caps usually come as a set with the kits though. aluminum caps come with the Eggbeater SLs and above. i guess the C only uses plastic. i actually have some aluminum caps here that came with the Candy kit i used to rebuild my eggbeaters a couple of years ago. i can't use them because i have the older 2002 model that only used rubber caps. as gary pointed out, the eggbeaters are really easy to rebuild. the only tools i needed for mine were 3mm hex wrench to take out he bolt holding the pedal body tp the spindle and a 6mm hex to hold the spindle instead of a vase grip.

I got my eggbeater SL from padi banny and I already lost the rubber caps on both pedals as well but the pedals seem to be fine otherwise aside from small patches of rust that develop whenever I go back to using platforms every now n then ... time to email crankbrothers to beg for endcaps hehehe. ;D

FYI. Told a friend about it also who owns a pair of Candy SL's and he emailed Crankbros too asking for rebuild kit, but to no avail. Instead, he was referred to Velo City, who happens to be the dealer here in the Phils.
@mountg, I hope you get positive result, hehe! As you said, they might get suspicious about it.

lui-G, i think that's too much to hope for, since they do sell those. they won't send a complete kit but they might send end caps and a sticker, or a replacement for a busted part.

Caged pedals are heavy but are well protected when hitting stumps on single tracks. Uncaged ones are lighter and good for XC rides on open spaces.
Since I frequent single tracks, I prefer the Shimano 545 with Aluminum cage. Been using it for more than 3 years without any problem. I've hit stumps and boulders real hard but it just kept going. I'll replace it only if it falls off. But that is next to impossible.

Shimano 424 user here. I use it cos am still not very confident on muddy and technical sections so a cage comes in handy when i go unclipped. I'm now practicing the one sided clip-in as recommended by mba. The mud problem with 424 is very true. Once its caked in mud you will have such a hard time getting in.

personally, I really like the M-520's. They're just the right size and weight. These were my first clipless pedals and I do not regret getting them. When I moved to clipless, I committed to using only clipless and skipped the ones with a platform. Nothing against clipless pedals with cages, I just want to keep the weight down.

I currently used Shimano M-424 here... but its all pavement/concrete here... so far so good. Some comments on the M-424 is not good but mine is still superb. So far, no problems what so ever. My rig is SS... used for daily spinning and droppin-in on concrete/pavement ;D.

Got myself a shimano M520 pedals. Better than my old pedal, not as light as the m540 but good enough for me.

Get the Serfas ATB clipless pedals... Lighter than XTR, better mud clearance, and best of all cheaper than XT
