Spyder Optics / Men's Health Philippines The Executive Road Cycling Race Series 2007
Race Update
On February 17 and 18, we will start the 1st of the 4-race series in Subic.
Our race HQ in Subic will be the Subic International Raceway (SIR). It is one of the country's only permanent, purpose built motor racing circuits, and it has played host to both domestic and international motorsports events in its 12 year history. Notable among these events are the Philippine National Touring Car Championships, Asian Vintage Sports Car Races. The 3-kilometer circuit is popular because of its seaside location and features approximately one dozen challenging corners, plus it has a range of facilities that include spectator stands (great for our families and friends), VIP suites and pit area that make it an ideal alternate venue for cycling events.
We will be doing both the Prologue and the Criterium in this race track.
On the 17th, we will start the race at exactly 8:00 am with the Prologue. Each rider will do a lap around the 3-km circuit. The winner in this stage will be the first to wear the leader's jersey. Next event will be the Road Race; to commence 30 minutes after the last rider in the Prologue. The Road Race is expected to start at around 11 am, and it will take us outside the race track to a number of good roads inside Subic. The next day, we will have the Criterium Race. Stage winners, for each class will wear the leaders jersey.
We will have the following classifications: Mens Cat A, B, C, and Womens Cat A , B, and C. The details of the Prologue, the Road Race and the Crit will be discussed in the managers meetings on January 17.
This is not limited to the established teams. Any Executive/Working Class without a team may join as an individual/ privateer. Of course, it will be an advantage to race with a team. If you're racing with a team, race fee is P450 per head. And P500/head if you're racing as a privateer. Foreigners are most welcome to join.
I hope you guys have started training. Keep those legs pedaling.
Best Regards,
Edmund Mangaser

guys, reg fee is P450 or P500/day daw according to edmund.
"The fee of P500 or P450 would be per day. If you're part of a team, and you decide to race for two days, that would be a total of P900, and P1'000 if you're a privateer. Per day, each registered racer would also get race-kits to contain minimum of : cap from Spyder, energy bar & gel, and Powerade drink."

XRC ’07 (Executive Road Cycling Race Series 2007) Team Managers Meeting
7:00 pm January 17, 2007 Honey’s Terrace 2nd Floor, Club 650 Sports Center Libis, QC. I am inviting the managers of the following teams:
1. Team Fitness First (formerly Union F) 2. Team Power Bar 3. Team PLDT 4. Team Sustagen ( QCCC) 5. Team David Salon 6. Team Xycos 7. Team Waterwood Rocka#1 Bikeshop 8. Team Excellent Noodles 9. Team Elixir 10. Team John Wilkie 11. Team Cycling Zone 12. Team Polo Tri 13. Team Powerade 14. Team Paranaque 15. Team Auto Trend ( under a new team name now) 16. Tanza Cycling Club 17. And other new teams
I would appreciate if you can send thru text or email the confirmation of your attendance. In an event that the team manager can not make it, please send a proxy. It would be best if all the teams are represented in this meeting. For individuals without teams, you also need to contact me so I can work on the head count and reserve a seat for you. I do hope that you consider forming a team, for the minimum requirement is only four members (and maximum of 9 per cat.).
I also hope that our cycling friends from Cebu, Davao, and other VisMin cities would consider joining. On January 17, I am requesting the team managers to hand over the list of their line-up. A list showing the following info: Name, Birthday, Profession / Occupation and Category. You need not bring proof of employment or profession. I will forward a copy of this list to the Race Officials and to PECA’s core group. Together, we will review the said list. In an event that there is a need to validate ones claimed profession or occupation, then that’s the time the proof of employment/occupation will be needed. I trust that the team managers will be responsible enough to line-up legit exec racers. In the end, I believe all of us would want to have a “fair” playing field. I have invited some friends from the media to join us. Please prepare a profile about your team. It would be nice if you can come up with some sort of a media kit for our media friends. Especially for the sports shows, team profiles will surely help them create a good story line for their viewers. Personally, I think each team has so much story to tell. We have a mighty-dominating team like Fitness First (formerly Union F), and we have a never-say-die team like Waterwood. We even have an all female team – David’s. From the media, to join us in our Team Managers Meeting will be: Gameplan, Sports TV, Men’s Health and Metro Active. I will still invite some friends from other lifestyle magazines and FM stations. They are invited because that night will also be the official launching of our race. The Race Director, Mr. Paquito Rivas and corporate officers from Spyder Optics, Men’s Health, Coca-cola and San Miguel will also be there to join us. See you all on Wednesday night. And yes, please come on time. Edmund Mangaser EMR- Elite Multi-Sport Resources

XRC 07 - an update on guidelines
Road racing is like playing a high-speed chess against up to 20 other teams, all wanting to beat you, and are racing hard back at you, at over 40kms per hour while navigating an infinite variety of courses and race formats. The other teams are definitely thinking how to beat you. And your team has to out think them. Road racing is a combination of chess, marathon running, and car racing. Obviously, it favors the fit and the “thinking” racer. It also favors the guy riding with a team. It is crucial for all of us to understand that properly developed bicycle road racing is a team sport. Team tactics don’t guarantee winning, but they do greatly increase your chances and consistency at winning. Good executive teams can make it almost impossible for an individual rider to win a single day race, and impossible to win a stage race. That said, It would be a lot easier on our part, as organizers, to be a little slack about our rules and guidelines, and get a lot of participants in the race. But that’s not how we would like this sport to grow. Yes, we do want to promote cycling, and assist to help this “executive” category to grow. But we don’t wish to take shortcuts. Rest assured that the guidelines / rules we set are all designed to guarantee you- the executive cyclist, fair game, fun and safety. We know that balancing alone work life, family life, and cycling is already a tough job. We would like to have events that will keep you motivated, and in the process make you a strong and intelligent rider. In the process, we also want you to understand “team leverage”, and “team structure”. Cat A and B are designed for the competitive executive racers. Cat C is designed for the newbie and the enthusiast. All these “CAT’s”, we hope, can help address the racing requirements of the executive cyclists. GUIDELINES FOR CAT A & B:
1. OPEN FOR BOTH TEAM & INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES. Individual or privateers will accumulate points solely for themselves in the event they win. Cyclists representing a team can earn points for themselves and their teams.
2. TEAM MEMBERS: MINIMUM OF 4 & MAXIMUM OF 9 – Minimum of four (4). With this number, we can encourage individuals to form a team. With four guys, team tactics can already be executed. Maximum of nine (9). Beyond this number, I believe it leaves very little room for discipline, fitness, sportsmanship and team tactics. If we allow teams to go beyond 9, soon it will be beyond 12, then beyond 15. Then we’ll be forced to set a minimum of 9 and maximum of 20. Let’s not make that happen.
3. PRIVATEER / INDIVIDUAL ENTRY – A privateer or individual not riding for any team, is not allowed to use uniforms of any registered teams. He may opt to wear his own custom- jersey, or an after-market jersey that does not have semblance of any existing executive-team-jersey. If a rider appears at the starting line wearing a uniform of a team which he is not apart of, he will not be allowed to start. He’ll be asked to change.
An individual who is not part of a team, but is wearing the jersey of an existing team in the peleton will definitely create confusion. When a guy in a team uniform attacks (as road racing is full of attacks and counter attacks), you will not always have the luxury of time to check if he is the privateer or the real one. So let’s keep it simple. If a team has the good problem of having too many riders, the first thing the TM should do is to get his best 9. Those who did not make it as magic 9, can always play as privateers – in a different jersey/uniform.
4. ONE TEAM PER CATEGORY - Team Owners can field a team (min of 4, max of 9) in Cat A and Cat B respectively. But no Team Owners can field two teams in the same category. That would be the same as fielding an 18-man team in the same category.
In a given category, each team must have their unique jersey. There could not be Team X1, and Team X2 wearing the same jerseys. Again this will just create confusion. The team line-up for a given category, say CAT A, will have the responsibility of doing all the races in their CAT. Meaning, same line up will be called to do Road Race, TTT, and Criterium. Team line- up for Cat A will only play events for Cat A. And team line-up for Cat B will only play for Cat B. The rule of MIN OF 4 MAX OF 9 applies. If a team splits up because they have riders inside with different categories, unless they meet the min requirement of 4, they can’t run as a team.
5. ROAD RACE on the 17th – Cat A will be released first. After 20 minutes, Cat B will be released next. The course, which is heavy on hill climbs, plus the gap of 20 minutes will help eliminate or at least, minimize the chance of Cat B riders catching up with Cat A. But Cat A’s, please don’t relax
6. MOVEMENT TO THE NEXT CAT. – Once the team line-up is approved, and teams and riders have been categorized properly for the race year, that line-up will stay the entire year. In the event that one or two riders from the line up can’t show up in one of the race series, the “reserve” will be called in.
Stage winners will remain in their categories the entire race season. In fact, stage over-all winner (4race series winner) will have the chance to defend his/her title next year (And that means, you have a chance to beat him, too). No “mandatory” promotion here. The executive rider is not a pro, and we must not force anyone to take mandatory promotions. The challenge should be for other guys to manage their time better, so they can train harder and beat the executive champ. Our rule is, we will only promote guys from CAT B and C who are already “back to back” champions (2 years straight). If we keep on bringing up the winners, what will happen to us, and to the entire executive community? We will keep competing with the left-overs? Think about it. Would you like to promote, Eric, Alex, Ernie and Joel to open elite? As I have said, we are all in the same boat. The strong guys- they were not born bike racers. It’s their winning attitude and largely their time management skills. We need them We should want to keep on racing with them. So we will learn. Guidelines for Cat C Cat C is the entry category to the executive road racing. It recognizes individual points only. You may field a team of 4 or a team of 9 but no points will be given to the team. For this cat, only individual winners will be recognized. For all Categories, you can only join if you meet the following criteria:
1. 28 years old and above. 2. Employed, Entrepreneur or a Professional. 3. Not a PRO or an EX PRO ( Tour Rider), or part of Philippine Cycling Team
Since we would like to encourage the growth of women’s cycling, rule #1 need not apply to them. Let us all be professional about the above requirements. It is not income-based, nor determined by white or blue collar jobs. It is actually easy to meet. At the end of the day, we all want a fair game. The ideal candidate is one who balances work life, family life and his passion for cycling. Allow me to be candid, Wag naman tambay. Tambay, in cycling is an unfair advantage. Think of it as EPO. Not good for us. Hope this helps. Please feel free to email me should you need more info about the topics discussed above. Edmund Mangaser

I hope you guys would consider joining this. Noel, Rommel, and the rest of PinoyMTBiker's strong boys, it's high time to show them we (mtbkers) could do it, too. And if you're still having second thoughts about joining, King will be there on his single speed road bike! ... The day before the race, that is. We'll be there a day ahead to work on logistics. But come race day, he would be riding a geared bike. Watch out for da King. It would be his Launch to Roadie stardom.
YOu may join as individual or with a team. Start with Cat C. Get the feel of road racing muna. Deadline is on the 25th, but for individual entries we'll extend it until Feb 7.
All PinoyMTBiker members who would like to join CAT C can register at the shop and avail of special entry fee of P450.00 instead of P500.00. (limited to PinoyMTBiker members joining CAt C. Just look for me, JC or Salve )
