hey guys...im planning to convert my other raod frame for a cyclocross setup...rainy day kasi...any advise on how i should do this...
...like where can i get a road fork na v-brake compatible? ...any store that sells cyclocross tires ...mas okey ba if i use an mtb crank or a regular road crank ...lastly, is it okey to cyclocross sa maarat trails (never been there...i use road kasi and my ride terminates at the timberland gate.) thx

brad. good idea!You have to modify your roadbike wheelset and brakes.Probably the best bike for Phil. rides.

why would you use v-brakes? cx bikes uses cantilever brakes. cx bikes uses road cranks.
you could also use mech disc brakes if your cyclocross frameset has discmounts.

cx uses smaller rinks, 48/34, then a road bike (53/39). a friend of mine set up a cyclocross bike w/ road cranks though. he had a frame built by ave maldea for 26" mtb wheels, using drop bars, tiagra lever/shifters and drivetrain and xt canti brakes. the smaller wheels make it easier to pedal the road gears though. i think i remember seeing a ritchey 'cross crank in decimal once, but that was more then a year ago. v-brakes migt not work with road levers (although edmund has a hybrid bike set up with arch rivals). you should use canti brakes instead. unless your frame already has canti mounts you'll have to use regular road brakes, which limits the tire size.

thx for the info. one problem pa about the frame is the canti mounts. maybe i can custom weld these mounts to my old frame. any idea who can weld? i mean local frame makers?

ave maldea should be able to do it. another potential problem pala is tire clearance. some of the old steel frames have very little clearance. mine is pretty tight and i only use 23's. anything over 25 will probably rub on the frame.

For old steel frame converted to cyclocross, i think the best solution for rear tire clearance problem is to rebuild it by steel frame maker. They can easily do that by adjusting the chanstay and seatstay tubes. For lugged steel frame, that would pose some challenge because the chainstay spacing is fix. What could be done is to let go of the lugged in bottom bracket section and have it fillet braze instead.
