Just curious, where do you go to train? I mean your regular route for training on your road bike.

I train on this little hill it has a few of these little switchbacks OK so I've never been there, but I'd give it a try.

mike - sorry I can't help you with specifics since we're from different parts of the world, I'll give some general ideas. For me any long climb is fair game as a training ride. Better if the road surface is well maintained and the traffic is not too dangerous. I think it's also good to train in a group and do fast pace line rides. Macapagal Hwy and the new roads around Mall of Asia seems like a good place for group rides.

i live in qc so when we go on long rides they're almost exclusively in the Rizal area- Antipolo, Teresa, Morong, Bugarin or Sierra Madre. every once in a while we also go to the Loyola Spinning Studio in Katipunan for intervals.

Hehehe, Bo, I almost believed you and was so impressed while I was scrolling down the picture you posted! ;D
Mike, I tried my road bike for the first time at the UP Oval yesterday. It's a good place to practice for a newbie roadie like me, since the oval is carless on Sundays.

Since I'm from Las Pinas so I train in Daang Hari road. It about a 19 km loop w/ everything on it, false flats, short abrupt climbs, relatively long low grade climbs and fast flats. A great place to train. My friends and I also train inside Ayala Alabang Village, they have an 8 km loop in there. But we prefer Daang Hari as there are less intersections and is more free flowing. Then on the longer rides (100 kms total) we go to Tagaytay passing thru several routes, aguinaldo hi-way, silang, indang, mendez and amadeo routes. On really long rides (160-210 kms) we go as far as evercrest then on down to balayan up payapa and back home to Daang Hari lespu station. Rainy season is fast comng up so the MTB gets parked again and road rides, here we come!

Sunday is probably the most dangerous day to ride around the UP oval. I used to ride around UP Monday-Saturday, but Sundays it's just safer to ride around Quezon Memorial Circle.

I don't have a roadbike ... yet but here's what I do for training.
I live in the New Manila area and usually I do Ultra climb in Pasig on weekdays. I climb the Ultra/Green Valley side and do repeats up and down. I've seen roadies do the the other side St. Paul for their training. I started doing the St Paul up and Green Valley down and soon reversed direction when I gained strength. Now I just do the Green Valley side up and down for faster intervals. Doing it from anywhere as 5 FAST repeats to 15 Endurance climbs, depending on my schedule.
When time permits, I go direct to Antipolo church via Ortigas. I usually start at 6am and finish by 8:30am doing 40km roundtrip.
On weekends, I do Maarat or any of the trails in Rizal area. If time permits (and the wife does not object), I also do UP on Sundays in the afternoon since there is less traffic. There's an alternate 4km loop in UP that includes a short trail sprint with a long gradual climb and avoids the human foot traffic. I've seen some roadies use the route for their training since it does avoid zipping through joggers, walkers, kids, etc.
BTW, MrsM I think I saw you at around 5pm using your new roadbike. I was recovering with fishballs and drinks ...
Good luck!

Could you care to elaborate on that brad? I thought it was safer to go around during Sundays because the roads are blocked from motorized vehicles... unless the speed of a roadbike is an issue.

It's because of the too many people jogging, walking, playing badminton, etc. along the road. I almost fell avoiding a kid in trike that just suddenly darted out after buying fishball. This is the reason that I actually go really very early or late to avoid the crowd. And the reason I found an alternate route around the campus ...

I thought it was safer to go around during Sundays because the roads are blocked from motorized vehicles... unless the speed of a roadbike is an issue. I guess it is the speed of the roadbike that's the issue in woofer's perspective, since as radical mentioned, there are a lot of human traffic (people jogging, kids biking, skateboarders etc). I guess if you plan to have an intense training ride, this is not the place for you, but if you just want to get used to your bike, put in some saddle time and practice, this would be ok.

Sure, it's Raul right? your all invited on our training runs down south. We usually do the daang hari loop during weekdays. We start real early, 6 am, then do 3 or 4 rounds finish just before 8 am and head back home to go to work. On weekends is when we're able to go to tagaytay or Batangas.

I too consider myself a mtbiker specifically an XC rider. It is much easier to train on a road bike more so than a mtb for power, endurance and aerobic training. But nothing beats the feeling of blasting down single tracks or fireroads w/ ruts and rocks!
Like raul, its only for cross training.

That's nice to know Ramon I had this impression that you were more a roadie than a mountainbiker ;D Nothing does beat the fun and adventure that a mountainbike can give you!
