From someone who is using platforms for 17 years, switched to clipless for 16 years, then got a single sided clipless pedals just recently, my answer is whatever floats your boat.
Platforms allow you to easily tripod on sketchy situations. Clipless will give you unrelentless contact with pedals.
You can pull the pedals on clipless, but you can have varied foot placement on platforms.
It's a bit expensive to convert if you want to just try it. But you can simulate being attached my using webbing.

Safety because recently meron na naman tayong kapwa siklista na naaksidente (Sangandaan Incident) and isa sa mga tsimisan saamin is yung cleats nya na dehins nabaklas or what.

cleats for long uphill climbs pero kung light trails lang, flats would do

Clipped-in for me, both for trail and road ride, good to be clipped in when riding rock gardens and drops, less worries of pedal slip.

About safety on being clipped in, muscle memory yan eh. I admit 2x ako bumagsak while clipped in pero newbie error. Tipong nagmagaling na from stop, balance, clip in, larga, ayun semplang kasi nasa lubak yung front tire, nawalan ng bwelo.
Yung sa aksidente sa kalye, normally I unclip kapag alanganin, kaya ng single sided pedals ako courtesy is brad simplej0ys. Or hanap talaga ng daan na konti ang sasakyan. At....when in doubt, dismount. No point in being heroic or acrobatic or aggressive, kapag may malaking sasakyan sa likod at bumubuntot, gumigilid ako at tumitigil.

hmm... pwede din naman i-adjust ang higpit ng clip di ba? I mean para mabilis mabaklas.

pero sabi nga nila "Flat pedal win Medals", Go Sam Hill!!! hehe but as for me naka single release ako na spd. basta pag medyo alanganin unclip na ako kagad ng left foot ko. yung kanan naka clip in pa din para ready na ulit pag clear na sa daan/trails.

Yung Outsideslacker na blog may gamit syang pedals na flats on one side and may cleats dun sa other side. Siguro mas okay yun.

Yung nabili ko Kay simplej0ys ganun. Single sided clipless pedals. Meron ang shimano pero di ko trip ang itsura. I was always looking for wellgo wam-d10 pero sa hong Kong lang meron, copied design pa (ibang brand). Tapos ayun....merong similar pedals from nz.

i use both, but i prefer flats more even on xc races/events. flats teaches one to put weight on the pedals... something that clipless won’t teach because it’s inherently secure already. also, i like to play with a bit of trials. by secure i mean feet planted on the pedals. for flats this security takes effort so to speak in that you ‘must/should’ prolong your power stroke to achieve this sensation.
one may argue that you can do a pull on clips while cannot on flats... i beg to disagree but you can do a pull on flats. this feeling is clearly felt on harder gears on climbs specially when standing.
again another argument is that its more efficient to climb seated... yes it is, but if you are aiming for good pedaling practice, do it on flats both standing and seated.
try mindless pedaling on flats, o guarantee a slip 😛 in clipless you can do this as it’s more forgiving on pedaling flaws at the expense of muscle over compensation.

One more thing, without proper cleat positioning and pedals without float, you'll have knee pains on clipless.

For me kasi there is also the matter of practicality. Yung shoes for clipless have a specific use, which is for biking lang. I count myself as one of those people who have a few pairs of shoes, and I prefer if my shoes can be used for general purposes as well e.g general commute, biking, gala, etc.

anarki, you should see my SPD compatible shoes, he he. Vans Mental Shimano MT 33 Vans Exacerbate I forgot the model of the 661 that I had, but stay away from it. I never had a durable product from them, both shoes and gloves wear out really fast.

not sure about personal protection from 661, but their helmets are on the small side. XL fits like an L or a M/L.
Vans Mental - discontinued more than 10 years ago. Shimano MT 33- yeah, got it from Riley (Rapidfire bike shop, check FB) Vans Exacerbate - hmm...not sure, ask simplej0ys, i bought that from him.
AFAIK, I never spent more than 4K on a pair of SPD compatible shoes. I've used these when bike commuting, so it's a whole day wear for me. Soles are hard, they should be, but it won't impede you from walking and running. Some shoes would make the cleat hit the floor, some to do not, make sure you won't damage marble or concrete floors, he he.
another thing, i always go with laces, not the velcro ones. although Shimano AM41 is still a dream shoe for me, looks veeeeery nice.
