I'm originally a roadie till a friend of mine adviced me to try mountain bikes. Now I use my MTB on road more often than my road bikes @ a ratio of about 3 is to 1.

roadbike riding 1 year and counting! i've got more pavement pedal stroke on a roadie last year than on an mtb, found out you can be as agile on it like you are on an mtb especially in traffic. i didn't understood what aerobic and anaerobic riding was until roadriding. but i still can't bring myself to riding in circles, i'd rather be off to an errand with considerable mileage. so if you see a roadie on mtb shorts and roadie clipless shoes (yaiks!)), that's me, fattire til the end

tell me if im wrong: lately i had my 1.25 slicks on my mountain bike. pedaling was a lot lighter and i felt no "lag" with the turning of the wheel. motion wasn't sluggish and i felt i rolled longer. because of this, i was seriously considering buying edzel's spez alez road bike. sumakit ulo ko kakaisip.
just last weekend, i put my knobbies back on. guess what? i felt much much heavier and thus sluggish. i felt the wheels robbing my pedaling effort. in short- parang nanghina ako.
i guess this is the reason why or how roadies can easily come up with 100++kms on their cyclo-computers.
question: if i want to be strong in xc riding, would you advise cross training on a road bike?
i saw pido looking for a road bike so i gave him a heads up on the alez. i hope pido buys it. if he doesnt, i just MIGHT!

Marshall - ok lang! i thought you gave up roadriding when you sold your roadie, congrats to your new ride! i hope we can do a little group road trip in the future with some of the guys here, hybrid or roadie, doesn't matter Brusko - something about a higher power transfer due to decreased tire resistance to explain none of the lag and a longer roll to every pedal stroke your post also describe the effect of aerobic riding when you used slicks against an mtb on knobbies - you can bring yourself to the same speed and cadence but risk oxygen debt - anaerobic level and the dreaded lactic acid burn. but don't take me by my account, it's better felt than understood, consider a roadie in your future project about roadriding as cross training to xc - it's a yes but i'll leave it to our other members to provide accurate info

Owen - I did give up roadriding and settled with mtb... until I saw edzel's raodie in the buy and sell section I wanted to go back to bike commuting too... and after reading the scary bikejack incidents, decided not to use my mtb na in MM roads. Timing din because idol sworksmike has been demonizing me to get a roadbike. Allegra - Tara road ride. When kaya? Mga idols - I'll take this chance na din to ask for some tips: 1. When do you use the lower part of the handlebar? (I usually set my hands on top of the bar, before the levers) 2. How big is the advantage of road shoes/pedals over mtb shoes/peds? 3. How do you now if the bike fits you? 4. Is 8 spd still "in"? Thanks

I have one too, got one jun 2005, threre was just so much rain that i couldn't use my mtb. Used it to suppliment my mtb training. but now I find that i'm using it more than my mtb. But summer's here again (dami mtb races na) so i'll probably get more trail time on my mtb.
Tara, sama ako sa PinoyMTBiker roadride. Paul, Owen pang-train for upcoming mtb races...

I do both mtbike and road.I always bring my bikes in my car(xb Scion) and hit the trail after work.If the trail is wet/snow, i go roadbike and when the trail is dry and clear(no snow) i do mtbike.Right now,i do alot roadbike in my rollers coz its so cold outside.Cross training is a good thing to do to improve your skills and aerobic power.

Allegra - thanks for the tips idol So I think the indian has to practice so the pana does not need to upgrade hehehe Im using mtb pedals now...thing is, the bike came with new road pedals so Im halfway there kaya sooner or later I may just buy the shoes. About the fit, after a 20k relax ride yday I felt a little ache on my lower back.. I changed to a stragith seatpost and pushed the saddle closer to the bar.. testing ulit later Owen - when are you free idol? Mcvarki and sworksMike might want to join us too I hope I do not like this road biking so much.. or else all the money I spent on my mtb is toast... my wife will toast my butt too... ;D

where could i get a cheap road frame?

Post by sworksmike on Mar 1, 2006 21:34:51 GMT 8
Janix- got the k2 frame for 3800 ata brand new ordinary frame so if ever you'll upgrade dehins ka lugi when you sell it.
Fullspeed- agree coz we could do road almost everyday and be back in our office on time unlike mtb which usually ends noon for a short ride.
Allegra- agree with what you said sir its the indian but like fullspeed said i also need to train the indian that's why decided to get a road bike
Fattire- oks yan but i hope short ride muna so we could learn the basics and proper form of riding a road bike
To everyone let's keep the roadie section alive, so that more PinoyMTBiker idols would try roadbiking the more the merrier!

I'm not givin up my mtb , it's like an old pair of Levi's
Observation sa non-bikers - Women love roadbikes , when roadbikes are parked sa coffeeshop , they stop and stare nd even touch, or maybe they just like the bright colors. I've sometimes heard the word "sexy" mentioned
Guys like mountain bikes , especially when it's got suspension and disc brakes. Wala katapusan kwentuhan
