Plano ko po sana bumili ng first bike ko, and ang mga choices ko po is Cannodale Trail 6 and Giant Talon 3. Which do you think is thee best choice? And @20-23k mah maissuggest ba kayong ibang MTB? Thanks

I feel like I've seen this post before. My previous answer would be giant talon 3

My first choice actually is Talon2. Kaso yung drive train setup niya na 2x9 is dehins pwede sa akin kasi mostly long rides ang paggagamitan ng mtb ko.

If that bike fits your budget then I suggest you get it ask the store if you can swap for a drivetrain that suits your needs.

curious question, what's wrong with using a 2x9 on long rides? btw, what do you mean long rides? long trail rides? long road rides?

Sir kasi yung 3x8 may 42/32/24t x 11/34t tapos sa 2x9 naman 38/24 x 12/36t. Mas okay sa long road ride yung 3x8 dahil po sa chainring niya na 42t kaysa sa 38t ng 2x9

question is, are you using the 42 tooth?
in my case 3x9 ang drivetrain ko for the longest time ang heaviest gear combo na gamit ko is 44 x 15, which is almost the same gear ratio as a 32 x 11 (3:1).
although masarap gumamit ng big ring on road rides, the question is, can you push the gears for it? on a 44 x 15, kaya ko magmaintain ng 35 kph at 5 - 10 mins tops on flat. i'm not saying i'm fast, what i'm saying is, will you be using those heavy gears and maintain high speeds? kung 25 kph maintained speed, more than enough na yung 2x9.

Mostly po kasi may mga kasama ako. Kasi baka maiwan ako sa kanila, dehins po kalakasan cadence ko kaya mas okay po sa akin yung bigger chainrings hehe.

I Agree with anthrax.....Kung 25 to 30kph maintained speed sa road... kahit 30x11 kaya yan at dehins pa overspin yan (atleast in my case).....naka single chainring ako 11spd drivetrain

i think the 42t is mainly used for racing don't be afraid to get left behind and also, don't push yourself. your mates will wait for you and usually there will be a sweeper (one that makes sure that no one gets left behind). I find the 2x10 setup convenient and lighter than the 3x-- setup.

that's my point, gagamitin mo ba yung gears na yun? even during my MOA days, naka compact crankset din ako nun na 42-32-22, 8 speed, steel mtb ang gamit ko. nagagamit ko lang yung 42x11 kapag nakikisabay ako sa roadies at pumapalo kami ng 45 kph and above. guess what, kaya ko lang din i-maintain yan ng mga 2km, tapos kalas na ako sa peloton.
kung dehins naman kayo umaabot ng ganung speed or dehins rin naman nagme-maintain ng high speed for a long time, ditch the heavy gear (literally and figuratively). una mas magaang ng almost half a kilo ang setup mo, second mas efficient ang gamit mo ng gears.
i assume may bike ka ngayon, or kung wala hiram ka muna dun sa mga kasama mo or makakasama mo. hit the speed na kaya mong maintain for long periods of time, dehins yung sprints lang, tapos check mo kung anong gear ang ginagamit mo. do the math, baka mamaya 44 x 17 eh sapat na, that's about 2.5:1 gear ratio which is a whole lot lower than a 38x11, 38x12. it's pretty close to 38x15. with that in mind, meron ka pang 2 more smaller cogsets before you hit your max gear ratio for your setup.

kung makakahanap ka pa nung talon 3 2016 27.5... xcm fork, 3x9, altus shifters and fd alivio rd, fsa crank, tektro hydraulic brakes, maxxis ikon tires price, nasa 20-25k parang downgrade ang talon 3 2017-2018, xct fork, 3x8, altus shifters and fd acera rd, prowheel crank, tektro hyd brakes ikon tires

aba'y wag niyo na siya pilitin aba... by all means go for the 3x8 that you wanted. if that setup accomplishes your intended goal, is say go fuckin' get it! you'll probably know (with proper experience) later on that you could achieve the same objective with 2x9 or a 1x. GO FOR IT!

to the TS, don't get hung up on numbers if it's your first bike. get the best you can based on your budget.
