This is what Eddy Merckx looked like last spring: He is pictured with his son Axel. This is what he looks like today: Now, before you laugh at his "before" picture, note that even at 280lbs he joined Ride for the Roses and freakin' pulled at the front at just under 40kph. Way to go, Eddy!

may pag asa pa ako pala pumayat...hehe pero dapat kaya maging roadie ako? hmmmm Di naman siguro. Just bike 2 hours a day, 4 to 5 times a week and cut out rice, sugar, softdrinks, and processed flour from your diet. It worked very well for me over the past 1.5 months. I lost something like 15+ pounds. I'll post more pictures of The Cannibal later...

Paano kaya mag bike yan? 8 hours a day 7 days a week @ 40 kph? Hala almost a year pa lang nag ba-bike yan ah sana ako rin ganyan hehehe pero kelangan mag-aral muna eh. Anyways... any tips on how to control hunger pangs? 'Di ko kasi maiwasan eh...Tumataas kasi ang metabolism natin kapag nae-exercise tayo di ba? Nababawasan ako ng timbang pero ang bagal.

The secret -moderate on carbo and sugar. Eat small snack, have a good lunch and small dinner. Eat before 7:00 pm. Don't wail till you get hungry. Eat less excercise more. If your intake 1500 calories burn 1700.
For the last 11 years never gain weight (this happen after married ;D ;D ;D). If I ride 3 hours on sunday and do roller 1 hour twice a week I loss 5 lbs within 2 weeks. I noticed when training. Base on my body frame of 5' 9" 150lbs.

Paano kaya mag bike yan? 8 hours a day 7 days a week @ 40 kph? Definitely not that much! I think 2-3 hours with at 30+kph would be a reasonable daily ride for the greatest cyclist of the 20th century. He still runs his own bike company full time, so he can't be out on the road all day. In my case, I lost 15lbs over the past month by riding 1.5-2 hours a day, 4x a week. My avg speed is something like 27-28kph over rolling terrain. You can avoid hunger pangs by avoiding simple carbohydrates. These are the processed flour, white rice, sugar etc. I mentioned earlier. Simple sugars cause a increase in insulin production, followed by a sudden drop in blood sugar levels which leaves you hungry and without energy. I think that most of us eat way too much white rice for a sedentary lifestyle.

From: tinyurl.com/4bgq5Photo: tinyurl.com/63sz7While Eddy Merckx has not participated in a competitive cycling event since 1978, the commotion caused by the Belgian's presence at this weekend's triathlon in Eilat was comparable to that of any current sporting star. Merckx is in Israel as the guest of the Israel Triathlon Association, which hosted the 18th Israel Triathlon Open Friday. Merckx is considered one of the top cyclists in history, and everyone who saw him Friday could only wonder at his outstanding achievements. His unique riding style and phenomenal legwork earned awed looks from competitors and spectators alike. The same legs that won more than 500 career races, including five Tour de France triumphs, five Giro d'Italia victories, and three World Road Race Championships. In Eilat, Merckx participated in the relay event, in which a different athlete competes in each of the three stages of the triathlon - cycling, running and swimming. German triathlete Lothar Leder - the first man to break the eight-hour barrier in an Iron Man contest - was the team's swimmer. The runner was the chairman of the Israel Triathlon Association, Chagi Pagirsky. Despite the fact that he will celebrate his 60th birthday soon, it was clear that Merckx is still a formidable athlete. He completed the 40-kilometer race in less than 75 minutes. It is also clear that Merckx has mastered the art of handling an adoring public. Every tourist, competitor, spectator and official who approached him was greeted with a warm smile. Merckx hugged, and was photographed with, dozens of schoolchildren, who probably only heard his name for the first time in the past few days. "Wherever I go, I am first and foremost an ambassador for the sport of cycling," he said. "I have enough patience for everyone, because the issue is important to me."
