not really, unless magkaiba ng number of holes. please, huwag ipagpilitan ang 32x36 or 36x32 combination, or any combination for that matter.
kung sakaling may papalitan ka, baka spokes, lalo kung magkaiba yung inner diamater nung luma at bagong rims.

If 32h yung new rims you can still use the old hubs.
But if you're planning to upgrade to 10 or 11 speeds, you might need to also change your existing hub.

The smallest chain ring is your friend when it comes to steep climbs. I'm assuming you have now a 3 x 8 drive train. mas madami ka na kelangang palitan kapag ng 1x or 2x set-up ka, like the shifters, crank set, etc. Kung properly working pa naman yung current set-up mo, I suggest you hold the upgrade and save some more... until such time na bumigay na talaga yung set-up mo at meron ka ng enough funds to get a new group set.

hmm....steep hills, it's either kulang ka sa gear or kulang pa sa kondisyon ng katawan.
mahirap eksaktong sabihin kung ano yung mas bagay sa bike mo, ikaw makapagsabi niyan based sa pinupuntahan mo. ang definition ko kasi ng steep eh The Wall at Shotgun na naakyat ko naman on a 3 x 8 drivetrain, 22 x 28 gear combo.

1x9 drivetrain, 32 or 34t front chainring. tapos 12 to 42t customized cassette. pwede na siguro yan but 1x8. medyo limited ka. but i think you can make an 11 to 40t cassette that's 8-speed just to give you an idea. here's my 12-42t 9-speed:

My tip, just put miles and hours on your bike. spend some time to ride (road or trails). Get to know your bike more. Don't put too much time and money upgrading, if you feel you need to upgrade since you need to perform better (given that you have put a lot of time and miles on your bike) then go.

same here, based on experience lang. i guess we we're just lucky to live through the transition from the old school to new school. times when you were defined by how you ride and not what you ride.
back on topic: has anyone here tried to do a 4 cross lacing coming from a 3 cross because the new hub has a higher hub flange or the rim is "wider"/aero? hence the need to "shorten" the spokes.

nice bike demm! just a friendly advice, when you lay your bike to its side, lay the non-drive side face up. to keep the RD from being pinned to the ground. keep riding!
