Hi guys, Good evening. newbie here. So yung body ng mtb ko, old-gen na sya so standard sized and expected to be 1 1/8" yung size sa seat tube ko. Can I use a Tourney, Altus or Acera FD for my old-gen-body mtb?

yes you can, you'll just need shims. meron yung shimano na plastic, minsan kasama ng FD minsan dehins. What i did is cut out aluminum strips from soda cans

Can you send me a pic po on how to do that kasi for oversized body daw, pero i always thought that yung ring for seat tube sa FD, adjustable sya.

yung FD clamp is has a single size. but it can accommodate smaller seat tubes using plastic shims.
please don't use the term oversize, it's a vague term, better use actual sizes.
anyway, ako ang isa sa pinakatamad magpost ng sariling pic. what i did is, kumuha ako ng caliper, sinukat ko yung diameter ng seat tube. nung nakuha ko, compute lang ako ng circumference (diameter x pi). so alam ko na yung haba nung strip. then sinukat ko yung lapad nung clamp, normally 1 cm. assuming a 1" seat tube, i'll need, a 3.14 cm x 1 cm strips.
i get an aluminum can, tapos nagpuputol lang ako ng mga 5 to 10 strips. wrap it around the seat tube then tighten the FD clamp. kapag kulang, gupit lang ulit.

Wow, creative , cgeh2 sir gonna try that, so FD size doesn't matter sa seat tube size sa body ng mtb ko? it'll still function like a normal derailler diba?

yep, you just need shims btw, that's not my idea, I just got it from a friend. medyo frustrating lang yan kapag malaki difference ng seat tube vs. clamp size. sample a 27.4 seat tube vs. a 31.8mm FD clamp. that's 4.4mm difference, marami raming strips ang kailangan mo.

he he, no idea brad, sorry. what i did was just keep cutting strips until I got the thickness the same as the difference in diameter. i then test if the clamp is able to snugly fit when tightened. that's why i got an el cheapo caliper, he he he.
