it's the same radial design as Magura and the newer Shimano hydros. I think Hayes put the reservoir cap in between the lever and the bar to prevent damage and to give it a slimmer profile (which I think is brilliant as my XTR's reservoir caps have been bashed to death due to crashing into rocks). However, filling up the reservoir will be a pain since you have to remove the lever to put the reservoir in a level and upright position.

would be interesting to see how the white holds up to wear and tear (and leaks from the fluid!) some ride reports at the Interbike Dirt Demo were less than satisfactory though

I've got one.. it's seems (from the website) you need not remove the reservoir cap... instead you inject brake fluid thru the bleeding screw... correct me if am wrong... i like this design.. it's a true ambidextrous brake.. i use all of my brakes ala motrorcycle style.. front/right-rear/left i guess you can take the allen screw off when removing the levers... no need to take off the handles... downside though... the brake pads are a lot bigger than the old hayes hfx series... and there are no dealers here!!!

(cebuano for rich), you seemed to have everything cool and white! therefore all that glitters is not gold? or it should be: all that is white is always cool?

sad to say, I got the gray instead of the white, true am a lefty but the story behind all that front/right rear left mumbo jumbo is that I used to ride motorcycles, and am a front braker, perhaps its for safety reason on my part, but the british mountain bikers have the same up as mine... e.g. steve peat... aussie bros the athertons... sometimes white can blind u heehee/ I've got one.. it's seems (from the website) you need not remove the reservoir cap... instead you inject brake fluid thru the bleeding screw... correct me if am wrong... i like this design.. it's a true ambidextrous brake.. i use all of my brakes ala motrorcycle style.. front/right-rear/left i guess you can take the allen screw off when removing the levers... no need to take off the handles... downside though... the brake pads are a lot bigger than the old hayes hfx series... and there are no dealers here!!! OT: Funny though that I'm a lefty too, but I have to live with what the righthanded world has to offer for me. ;D
But I think lefties are more artistic anyway.
Ok, now back to the Stroker.

Darkman, your XT brakes have enough power IMO ;D. As I've read above, there are no local suppliers of brake pads for these and thats bad news unless of course you know people. But compared to looks, I'd go with the stroker over the XT anytime. Danda danda

i think the problem is not that shimano designs are ugly and this one is really nice and beautiful...nagkalat lang ang shimano...reverse the situation and i'm sure we're gonna say shimano is awesome and braking is like dropping an anchor.

i think it's not fair to compare it to XT's.. first XT's don't use semi metallic pads... it is known that metallic pads are good stoppers... yes we all know that Xt's have servo waves.. have yet to try it but would love to

OT Agree. Nagkalat so its no longer exotic like the stoker. Being different is part of the appeal. I have XT's on right now, before this, I have non-series. The non-series was actually good enough for me but I had the chance to get the XT at a reasonable price so I grabbed it. Breaking power feels the same for me. Its like dropping anchor. Being a trail rider, that power is plenty enough. In the end, the only difference between the 3 is the exotic quality of the stroker. I like exotic things. ;D note: for DH, it's a different story. Power counts the most. That is when the last bit of performance is needed. Although there is a phrase I've read somewhere saying - If you wanna go fast, take your hands off the brake ;D

At P7K (am i right?) the Stroker seems like a good deal. My question is are these the most bang for the buck hydro brakes? they are IMO compared to '08 XT, Juicy series etc. The Stroker appeals to me because of the rugged design and because it uses DOT? fluid rather than mineral oil. I don't know if it adds to the stopping power.

do you remember back in the 80's or 90's there's this commercial about prestone brake fluids? wherein they boil it? well the whole point there is to see if it can actually withstand great heat.. DOT 3-4 is already a proven product that's why they use it in cars, motorbikes and other applications. i have absolutely no quarrels with people who choose to use Mineral oils but then mountain biking is all about split second decisions and actions.. for me DOT's have proven itself, works well esp. dissipating heat.. www.hayesdiscbrake.com/support_faq.shtmlwww.hayesdiscbrake.com/hayesu_product6.shtmlOT Agree. downside of DOT's is that it's not that bike friendly as per stains it causes.. and some paint damages this might be ot already but i've heard that juicy's have the tendency of leaking can someone pls. pm me?

Yes its true. My friends juicy three looks like its 10 years old because of the corrosion the DOT fluid did. It leaked around the reservoir cap.
