i'd really go for sram if i always have the dough for it... too bad, shimano cost less than sram... but i get what i pay for. sram mech DB, for instance, are better than shimano 475s...

It does seem that buy-and-improve is the SRAM way, but if it works, that's cool. Rock Shox in particular seems to have improved their products a lot since the SRAM acquisition.
I have SRAM (X.7 trigger shifters, X.Gen FD, X.9 RD) on one bike, and Shimano (LX triggers, XTR FD, XT RD) on the other, and I've decided I like the SRAM better....

yeah i really like the sram much better! Especially the bb7 mech disc brake works like hydro!
