shimano xt '08 gruppo is available in a 3 shops that i asked. 25k before haggling.
newbie question:
1) i've visited the shimano website and i'm confused as to the number of types for a given part. for example wheelsets have WH-M776, WH-M775 and WH-M770; brake system has a BR-M770 and BR-M775; ditto with front and rear derailleurs. how do i know which one will be included in the gruppo?
2) am i correct to assume that if i purchase the XT gruppo and have a frame and and fork, all that is left to buy will be the tires, seat post, saddle, stem and handle bars?
again i apologize for some green questions.

still need rims (if not included in gruppo which is for 25k, i think it is'nt), rim tape, pedals, grips, tools.. gloves, jersey, shorts, cycling shorts, shoes etc. but you can buy these later, buy a HELMET first! hope this helps

IIRC, the guy in paulina's said that the 25k already included the wheelset. he gave me 2 price quotations. one was lower than 25k and he said that was the (lower) price if the wheelset isnt included.
i thought the pedals not included in the gruppo? it seemed to be included in the shimano website.
yep ive allocated a budget for the helmet and other stuff are not to be installed on the bike.

Hi,
Usually, if gruppo, the wheelset is not included, and I think it is not included at that price, as wheelset alone at Paulinas is 17.5K +/-.

sir lockheed u dont need to purchased the JUJU hubs since XT hubs are included in the GRUPPO. GROUPSET -chainwheel w/ bb- -hubset w/ cogs- -v-brakes or discbrake- -shifters and brake levers- -RD and FD- -chain and cables- usually pedals and wheelset are not included... if u purchased the groupset, chains and cables are almost free instead of buying it per pc.

thank you sir for clarifying. paulinas and cycle art said it had a hydro disc brake. if true then it'll save me buying an avid bb7 or a juicy.

Better ask them to itemize all items included in the set just to be sure. Take note of all the item models and verify it in the website. Trust me, I've known one who learned it the hard way.
Hope this helps.

anybody can confirm that XT and XTR will be manufactured in malaysia...................... Hi bri, From what I've heard, XT '08's are manufactured in Malaysia (daw ), that's why I guess it came out cheaper compared at the time when they released the previous XT models. Not sure about the XTR's. But then again, if XTR's would come out cheaper compared to the previous models, well I guess it's about time to upgrade....for you! ;D

Hi,
Most of the XT parts that came in are made in Malaysia, except for my Hydraulic Disc Brake set which was made in Japan.

Hi,
I don't know for others have 08 XT Hydro Disc Brakes, but for mine, it is labeled in the caliper, rotor and I think even in the lever.... Made in Japan, while the others like the hubs, etc, labeled as Made in Malaysia..

@ goodboybrionne
I thought the all-mountain/ AXC version should have the:
SHIMANO SHADOW rear derailleur RD-M772-GS (midcage)... In any event, the site does not mention where it's better suited..

@ islaw:
Did u get the long-cage or midcage version of the shadow? And did u pair it with an 11-32T or 11-34T sprocket?

long cage version brad, with my "super used" XT 2006 cogs 11-34 and dual control levers. i was kinda hesitant at first because it didn't have the usual barrel adjustment like the previous models. but to my suprise it worked perfectly! didn't even bother to adjust the barrels at the top end of the DCL shifters.

I love the 2008 looks, but my shop told me it's heavier than last year's model. Nevertheless, it's geared mainly for AM use, but heck, I'd put it on my XC bike. Triggers though, not DCL ;D
