Any first-hand feedback on these frame-mounted-transmission frames? We've discussed Rohloff Speedhubs before but this looks to me like something new. If the market accepts these, I think losing the traditional exposed F/R derailleurs is a big step forward for MTBiking with the gearing system protected plus low center of gravity. I haven't heard of the brand either until I saw this in Wikipedia. www.nicolai.net/www.nicolai.net/

i have seen only one NICOLAI ever. in Whistler and it's not the internal gear version... some lady who bought it secondhand was riding it. no decals... but there's no denying a Nicolai. She loves it but we all love our bikes.

Is it just me or there are way too many welds on this frame?

Nice frames, read that its quite popular among european riders. They cant bring the frames in the US because of the FSR patent of specialized on Horst-link. Well it seems the particualr frame posted above has lots of features up its sleeves. And its a DH frame to be exact. And its a common thing among boutique bikes to showoff the quality of their weld

How come some Nicolai models seem to have the BB way below the chain line (ok since I can't see the actual chainline... the BB's are lower than the wheel mounts)? Doesn't this pose a problem with ground clearance, considering too that the internal transmissions are huge?
Anyone knows how the shifting is controlled?

The thing about the Nicolai is that it is way toooooooo expensive that's why you we haven't seen it anywhere else. it's popular among the europeans but they rarely see it in the streets and the events/races kasi nga mahaaaaaaal.
sino bibili sa inyo ng nicolai??? sana pa-picture ha???!!!
