made in the US that's why I think they're more expensive.
in fairness though, the Santa Cruz Heckler or Ellsworth Distance appears to be reasonably priced at about $800 for the frame

wow... 4 bar linkage! wonder why giant got rid of the nrs? ;D no rear pivot means GIANT don't want to pay Specialized for their US patent of the Horst link. With such low pivot though, I wonder how significant of an impact it will have on performance. Why dump a reliable system NRS system license belong to Renault. There's a contract between Renault and Giant until end of 2005. For 2006, Giant had choosen to have their own suspension system, Maestro. For 2006, the NRS system license is used by Bianchi. In case you're dubious, try this: www.bianchi.com/en/products/productsDetail.aspx?category=rc_mtbrange&idmaster=23126 Looks real for me! made in the US that's why I think they're more expensive. in fairness though, the Santa Cruz Heckler or Ellsworth Distance appears to be reasonably priced at about $800 for the frame Technically, they're not all made in the good ol' US of A. Santa Cruz Heckler D & Santa Cruz Heckler X9 instead in Taiwan ... My posse don't do homework...

With Giant paying the patent for the Horst link design, it means less income. With Giant's rep of providing affordable bikes for everyone, they came up with the Maestro System. Unlike Ellsworth and the other bike manufacturers I mentioned above on my earlier post, these boutique bike manufacturers can afford to "pass-on" the patent fee to the end clients/buyers. ;D So bottom line, it doesn't mean that the Anthem's Maestro suspension is better than the NRS. Simply put, Giant just wants to earn more. This of course, is how I see it in a business perspective.

nah. the NRS runs at no sag. they made up the maestro line to offer bikes with sag
but then again there's the VTs. but i don't think they're popular here are they

You mean to say they came up with the Maestro just to offer people suspension with sag? Babaw naman pards kung ganun. Check out the Anthem's instruction manual. It says there you can run the pump with NO SAG without sacrificing the Maestro's performance and ride characteristics. And on the other hand, I can run my NRS with 5mm's of sag.

yeah i guess you can run the anthem with no sag but it wasn't designed to be like that. and the nrs was clearly designed to run at no sag Sag is good (going further off topic ;D ) it keeps your tires planted when your bike starts to lift on top of a mound or hill when you have good speed going.
