i have a question...i have two XT rear derailleurs...one current and the other is an older model...on both the jockey pulley (upper) uses ceramic bushing while the tension pulley (lower) uses a sealed bearing...all along i thought the pulleys were just the same.
what is the reason shimano configured it that way? thanks.

Your XT is almost the same as SRAM X9, the jockey pulley is only bushing and the chain tension pulley is sealed bearing... Imagine that your riding off-road or Downhill, The lateral load of the tension pulley is not constant and always subjected to excessive vibration... the tension pulley is always working hard to make the chain in place... If the tension pulley is not a sealed bearing, this part will not last longer and need to be replaced in a short period of excessive riding... Since, it is cheaper than XTR. Shimano did not make the jockey pulley of XT as sealed bearing...

Don't put too much grease, just enough to make the bearing rubber seal water repelant... it can not help the functionality if too much grease, it will only catch dust and sand that will cause parts wear out...

Sir Bong, I just saw an X7 RD from my bike buddy with a design that will fit your jwheels. From what I've noticed, they both looked the same (the silver type) but his cage is color black while mine is all silver including the cage. For now I'm scouting for an X7 RD cage to replace mine so I won't have to replace the entire RD

Hopefully you can find the X7 RD cage only...
I checked with the LBS here if I can order the X9 cage only since this is almost the same design of X7... I'm still waiting for the reply from LBS if they can get one from the factory... I will let you know what is the result...

Sir Bong, sorry for the late review. It was just yesterday that I've tested your j-wheels on my FS with 07XTR RD. I did around 165km on it and it was crisp and responsive all the way. I've been using your j-wheels on my HT with XT08 RD for a couple of days already and the improvement in shifting was very noticable. One thing is for sure, I'm not taking them off my bikes maybe for greasing lang. More power to you sir. BTW I installed it without putting grease nga eh. Ok lang kaya?

That's good to know that your satisfied now with the performance of your RD after you installed the Bongjumper's JW...
I already put some oil in the bearing before I put it in the plastic packing... that should be enough to make the rubber seal water resistant. So if you did not put some grease, still OK? but for preventive maintenance purpose. you need to put some grease after a period of time of usage... this is to prolong the life of the parts... or just buy a new one if feel lazy to do the PM... ;D ;D ;D

New generations of Jockey wheels will release soon, lighter, more sparkling surface finish, new design, offer more crisp in shifting and better materials used, only two color available, Red/silver and gold/silver... But For sure this will add more bling to your bikes... k1ntaro™, can not buy or find the cage only for your X7... Sorry...

Pictures of the sample of new Generation Bongjumper's Jockey Wheels... from your reviews, engineers consider to improve the design to satisfies the user's needs. More gold...more silver... more lighter... more Bling...and more function satisfaction... sir bong nice new look. i have some comments with the old wheel. as to fit: i noticed its too fat for my 04 xtr. maybe a few mm's. il post the pick when i have time. and when i learn how to post pics. hehehe as to shifting response: the shifting is crisper than the old pulleys. even under heavy climbing load (which i intentionally did to test its response) the xtr has less crack crack sound. it just goes in much easier and smoother. however i also noticed that now i have to adjust the rd more often than before. it seems like the chain is rubbing the sides of the cog teeth much more than before. this happens normally when im accelerating. i get that tock tock sabit sound much more now. (not ghost shift sound) my theory is because there is no side to side play with the pulleys there is less tolerance for some mis alignment. every little side to side movement is directly transfered to the chain coz the pulleys cannot compensate coz their too stiff. so during my rides i have to occasionally adjust the shifter adjusters just a little to remove the "sabit" sound in the rear cog. not really sure of the cause of the problematic sound but it only appeared after i changed the pulleys. so far so good. p.s. can i change the gold cover to blue? hehehe thanks. free?

Hi Juvebiker41, Thanks for your review... For the thickness of the pulley. I measured all the pulleys of Shimano which have a thickness reading of 8.60 to 8.70 and the SRAM 8.80... Basically, there is a difference of 0.1~0.2 mm thickness between this pulleys of the two brands... In the case that only one pulley is replaced, this difference is noticeable since the thickness I use of my JW is 8.8 +/- 0.1 mm... and the other pulleys is 8.7mm... but still, no big problem that will affect the functionality of your RD.... It's very strange if your going to adjust often your Shifter. This is not normal. Once the RD is set it in the index position. all the way from 1 to 9... the chain is perfectly center to the cogs... here is some simple tips to find the problem... - please check your RD hanger if not bend - 34 teeth cogs and jockey pulley distance is 6 to 10mm. 6mm is better and 10mm is the worst in shifting response. - Bend teeth on the Cogs - Cog shell in hubs is loose - etc... Since, the jockey pulley is precise in the positioning of the chain to the COG. The RD must also perfectly tune and adjusted. Or else, it will not function well... Sorry, Still no blue color available...

@ Bong... May I ask how much will these pulleys cost? TIA Not so expensive as KCNC... PHP500 per piece with more than a thousand worth of satisfaction... Just putting this statement into perspective, I'm not at all interested in selling to your clientele nor latching on to your thread as some people are wont to do -- Model Price Weight with Ceramic bearings* P1800-2100/pc 9gms(+/-1) with sealed bearings * P250-350/pc 10gms(+/-3) * 2 years transferrable warranty I wholeheartedly support Filipino products. I think your product will go a long way, it can even sell on its own. I even remember pitching for it in one of the threads. Nevertheless, wouldn't it be great if we can sell without a diminutive/dismissive use of another brand's name? I did not react with the threads - SRAM/RD, KMC, and Tune. It is time that I did. I feel silly and defensive whenever I post something like this but I have to for the sake of dealers and store owners who, in good faith, built an obscure product into what it "is" now...and for the hundreds of end users who bought their ceramic pulleys nationwide and who, by the way, interrupted my vacation with numerous sms's asking for clarification. To clarify - yes there are KCNC JW in sealed stainless bearings being sold in Manila at twice the SRP (I think this is what you are referring to Bong). These were brought in by parallel importers from other Asian countries. No guarantees are offered for these. These people will be dealt with soon enough. Note also, that the next batch after the Chinese New Year shall be sporting laser etched serial numbers so as to identify the distributor who is selling outside their territories. KCNC has also filed 2 lawsuits against two big name manufacturers for 100 percent copying their design. One is marketing this as their own (Token) and the other is marketing these as 'original' KCNCs. Apologies for the Off Topic

Get your point JC... It's not off topic actually and thanks for explaining about your side. although I did not consider this before for others brand of the same parts existing in the market. But, this is the truth of advertisement... to persuade the end users level of requirements and specification... just a good example is amazon.com... if your going to buy a mobile phone, home electronics, car stereo...etc...etc... all product specs, different brand, prices, user reviews which is good or not, etc, etc... will appear on your computer screen... just up to the buyer what he want to buy... this is the advertisement satisfy the customer.... this is what we call "Truth and real advertisment"... This is the purpose of the forums... share your experience, to discuss ideas, to give information, to give a chance to voice out...
