Hi darkman, The distance of the Jockey wheels to 34 teeth is 6 to 10mm... you need to adjust the chain tension screw in the RD... too near will make it too sensitive and it will ghost shift... too far will make it hard to shift... so best adjustment is done by experiment by the rider feelings of course... Pedalling uphill is the best to test the shifting response of your RD. When the chain are tensioned. rocky trails is only good to test for ghost shifting... so adjustment is also necessary... Thanks GBB for the weight. your weighing scale can not give a decimal points and automatically round off the value... when the reading is 19.45 grams, sometimes round off to 19 or 20... anyway, this is a good input for design improvement...

Sir Bong, I just saw this thread and believe this is the best venue to give our input. First thing's first, I'm using a SRAM X7. For some reason the jockey wheels just won't fit my RD though I've read in earlier's post of Darkman that he is also using an X7. I wonder if his X7's design is similar as mine. I already discussed this matter with Sir Bong and it turned out that the J. Wheels can't be installed after all, so he offered a full refund of the item but told him that I'll keep this for now as I might change my RD anytime soon so I can use his J. wheels to feel its performance. I went to Ross yesterday and looked at their X7, figured that its designed is exactly the same as mine while on the other hand I also asked for their X9 then saw that its design will perfectly fit Sir Bong's J.wheels. This is how my X7 cage looked like.. and here's the original jockey pulley from X7 seating beside the fabricated one... If you'll notice in the 1st image, there's this emboss type of thing that will fit the moldings in the original jockey pulley colored in red. However the fabricated one doesn't have any. You can still install it but the chain keeps getting out of places from the pulley, also the RD is hitting the spokes once I shift it in the 1st gear. On the contrary, I still think that the J. Wheels of Bong will surely improve your RD's performance, just by feeling the way it rolls. It just need to fit your RD first For now, I'll be waiting for a perfect time to get an X9 OR wait for Sir Bong to come up with a J. Wheel that will fit my X7 then trade the J. wheels that I got from him.

@ Kintaro: brad, my x7 is colored black. Maybe an 07 model? Jockey wheel fits perfectly.

Hi Kintaro, I learned something about your X7 case. I'm not so sure if this is the latest model or older model... The X7 I have is also the same as darkman's X7... The only solution to your problem is to remove the washer in your RD. But it's not easy to remove this washer as I seen it in the picture. You need a electric grinder to remove it. So, this is full modification of your RD. But for sure, after your remove this washer. You can use my J. Wheels... It's your decision if you want to remove this washer by Metal grinder... I'm afraid I can not design a jockey wheels for your X7 only... Other than that, I can offer a full refund of your jockey wheels if you can not buy a X9...

Hi Hermie, Nice to read your review. You're satisfied now with the performance of your Shimano RD when you installed the JW from me. Thanks...

Can't wait to give this kind of positive review only if the JW fits my RD. Can't wait to feel the crisp response of my RD using this JW. Btw, just want to clarify that the new stock of X7 that I saw from Ross has the same design as what I have. So fabricating that will fit such RD will not just benefit me but those who will be purchasing their future X7. I strongly believe that you can get an X9 or even X0 performance once you used this JW in your X7. Thus, saving you some bucks to buy other parts for upgrades

Hi Kintaro, Once I'm back to my clinic. I will study further about this X7 case... Seems that SRAM re-design their newest model of X7 to make it different from X9 and X0...

Hi Bri,
Nice to have seen you w/ bud at giant in san mateo, 2 sunday's ago. Just wanted to ask if you packed the void between the washers w/ grease. I asked Bong and he said he does put grease but very little just to keep out the water.

I just installed mine on an 07 Shimano XT...and yes, shifting response got better. The rd performs great already with its stock/original pulley, but it just got better! One thing I noticed, Bong, though I'm not really sure, but I guess water can easily get to the bearing as there are no rubber seals on each gold plate/cover and even on the center bolt hole. Though, as what sir Ramon said, packing it with grease is the best way to keep the water out. Nevertheless, it's one cheap upgrade we'd all surely love! 5 chillis for your jockey pulley, Bong.

I have installed the "Jock-X" wheel on my XTR RD (RD-960) and tried it a while ago around the subdivision. Indeed the shifting response is more instantaneous as compared to the stock jockey wheel.
I tried to shift (up and down) while putting pressure on the pedals and holding the brakes. There was almost no delay on the shifting action. When I was using the stock jockey wheel, there was a noticeable delay when I shift.
My comparison for the Bjumper's JockX wheel is somewhat a worn-out XTR jockey wheel. The teeth are already thinner as compared to the lower (guide) wheel.
I'll try this soon on a '06 Deore RD.

Ramon hi, i didnt notice that it was u hehehe..... now i remember... hahaha....... anyways, yup i put grease..... actually i filled it with grease so there's no room for water if i do river crossing............... so far, i just need to tune my RD properly so it would give an improvement to my shifting... although i haven't tried it in trails yet, btw im using XT08 longcage RD... i might go back to 06 xt rd (rapid reverse) coz im having a hard time adjusting to rapid rise of shadow. bri

The first design is to have a two rubber seal in two covers for additional protection for the bearings... But in the wear and test result, the rubber seal did not work well, after a long period of usage. The O-ring already wear out and can not protect the bearings... So it is better to put some grease between the cover and the bearings to protect it from dust and water... Thanks for your reviews...

Sir Bong,
Just replace my old upper pulley with the one I bought from you. Works as per your description, very crisp. Thanks.
Only problem is, the lower old one has a different shape kaya it can't accomodate the replacement.

Hi GalVinchie, Thanks for your good feedback... I just can not understand what do you mean by "Different Shape and can not accomodate the replacement"... You mean to say the wheels or the RD shape.. Please clarify further your problem...

galvinchie is prolly refering to lower inner side of the cage which is angled towards the pulley..this cannot accomodate bong's pulley...my older xt's design is different and should have no problem accepting the pulley.

Thanks tolits, Now I understand the problem. this is the same as my LX, there is a bend to guide the chain in the chain pulley as seen in the picture. For me to install the chain pulley wheels. I use a hammer and a press (Gato) to make it a little straight enough to give room to the new wheels...

This is a follow-up on my post last night...
I tested the Bjumper's jockey wheel this morning at Cardiac (Sta. Rosa). Shifting was very responsive on both up and down-shifts while climbing.

i'd like to thank luisito for acquiring the jockey wheels on my behalf. muchos gracias lui. pasensya sa abala. i needed the j wheels badly becoz my deore 06's rapid rise RD bottom j wheels are toast and i didnt have the time to meet sir bongjumper himself. anyways, i hope i can meet you one of these days. my review: the j wheels feels crisp. literally. and the bearings are as smooth as butter. on the downside though, i had difficulty installing the bottom j wheel becoz a part of the cage of the RD was hitting the j wheels near the teeth. so i had to file the cage using a sand paper of which i dont know what grade or kind. took me just 5 minutes of filing and voila......fits perfectly with just a teenie weenie bit of clearance but its ok. another thing to consider is the weight. weighed the shimano j wheels and it weighs in at 23 grams for the 2 wheels and the 2 j wheels from sir bongj weighed in at 20 each for a combined weight of 40 grams for the 2 wheels. but then again, its a given that the wheels would be heavier as compared to a shimano. for one thing, the shimano j wheels dont have bearings and its made of plastic. sir bong's is made of aluminuum and has big, sealed bearings to boot. hoping though that sir bong can reduce the weight to at least 30 grams for the 2 wheels, hehe ;D. overall, i think its a great product. specially for those people who's j wheels are toast like mine, this is a great replacement. where durability and crisper shifting is concerned, this is the way to go.

Thanks for the nice review weight weenie guru... The design team is already working to reduce the weight of the jockey wheels... Time will come, we can ride together in the trail, or eat and drink together, who knows....
