This manufacturer also makes the kool jumping chain used for bmx, downhill, freeride. Same technology but this model is focused on racing, shifting, and weight. The much heavier and lower-ranked (based on MTBR) Wippermann sells for P4000-P4800.

I've got the silver X9 SL -- it's been holding up so well for about 10 months with zilch problems. I'm digging the missing link since I've been using DA circa 2004! But I've got the Gold as backup. But what I've been waiting from KMC is their uber light cassette. John, would it push through by October you said? I've got to have 'em as my replacements since my IRD Ultralight Mountain are just race-day only cassettes... TIA!

oceanrider88, a bit pricey nga...almost the same price as SRAM's hollow pin but lighter. i accidentally stepped on the missing link whill installing...wasn't even deformed, and that was a lot of weight...btw Rich, it floats also, hehehe joke lang Onie, the 140gm 11-34 cassette will not push through. heard that the '08 SRP made a ridiculous jump from below XTR price to P11K. i have limits also brad sa kabaliwan, hehehe. @mackyboboy, SRP for the X9sl gold is 3400/X10sl gold is P3800 coilerblue...seriously, would you be willing to buy chains for your type of riding discipline if its heavy duty but priced approximately the same? if yes, then my apologies for not being clear with my initial paper review. these chains are for XC. if no, then that is another matter. anyway, the more reasonable chain is what Onie mentioned - the X9SL silver...low key but with the same durability. however, KMC daw is iffy on bringing these in since they do look a lot like Shimano chains and it will compete directly with their no. 1 client which is Shimano. on the price, i guess it's a matter of preference. SRAM's hollow pin gold (the gold here is the link only) has the same price position but has been sold out for quite a while now. lastly, i hope i don't come across as a hard sell. just posted a review since i have 1st hand access to the product. the review was meant for the silent riders out there who are looking for alternative but better products. acceptable dissenting/contrary opinion are those with 1st hand/2nd hand knowledge...if not, then subsequent posts become an affirmation of the review, an increase in number of posts/classification, or a complete of waste of space. price issues are relative but a close second. one buys a product 1st (based on specs), then assesses performance versus price so you can put a personal VALUE to it, then you hope to God he posts a review so you wont make the same mistake. if you assess based on price alone..then that becomes a sensitive subject. i posed this question recently to a rider with an aggressive rig, "would you buy the KMC K or Z series with an unequalled tensile strength of 1500kgf (X10SL/X9SL have 1050kgf) at roughly the same price considering that the X series are weak by your standards?". He said no. I told him, "then why tell me it's weak at all when you obviously have a budget cap?". He answered, "because my existing chains are fine and quite affordable at less than P1000". So I asked finally, "well who do you think makes your chain that has a standard 850kgf (Shimano)?". Ayun, bumili ng.....Wipermann for P4000! Aargh! kasi daw kulay blue bagay sa frame nya (translation-its the because). People are weird. Anyway, addtional review - a bit hard to install link without tools

i change my chain every six month 3.5k is not applicable for me hehehehe Coilerblue, I was just wondering how aggressive is your riding style? And how much mileage or kilometers you are making in that six months time. I do almost 20k a year on all kinds of riding on one bike, and change my chain at the same time too. This is a good project study for me so I can teach other cyclist in my group how to save our chain. But seriously, this is not the kind of chain for your kind of riding. I'll put one and see how it will hold to my a tad over average riding. Jan, Im getting one too! If Big Jessie's Gold is holding up till now, maybe it'll hold on me too. 15 kilos lighter than Jessie ;D

when theres no trail ride i ride from molino, bacoor, cavite to any point of manila once or twice a week either a downhill rig or my freeride rig you know naman how heavy to pedal a long traveled rig which suspension has a sag of 25 to 30 percent...trip lang...pahirap lang sa sarili hehehehe ;D ;D ;D Check chain wear. Although it's called "stretching," your chain doesn't actually lengthen--the pins and bushings wear away, which increases the distance between pins. When this happens, the chain doesn't sit right on the cog and chainring teeth. Signs of a worn chain are slow and imprecise shifts, noisy operation and a rough pedaling feel-as if gravel is in the drivetrain--that can't be eliminated by lubing. The only cure: A new chain. i check my chain regularly similar to this tool... peace bros...im just giving my thoughts...

I actually have the same tool and the park one too. This is one of the most neglected part in our drivetrain, checking, changing it at the right time spells a big difference and practical in the long run. Not to forget, efficient in term of ride. Happy trails!

Actual personal review on KMC X9SL Gold Chain:
I bought this for weight weenie purposes but never thought that it would hold on despite my heavy weight, almost nightly usage at Nad Al Sheeba and numerous mountain trails. I am actually thinking of buying another one but my current one is still in perfect condition. The color is still GOLD - no rust - no fade and very eye catching!
