Update:
Just rode the Sta. Rosa Trails today. We departed at around 8 am from paseo. Man, that cardiac (I think that's the name) uphill was so f***in hard, I had to get off my bike and walk up (mga 50 steps nalang). I felt a burning sensation in my legs... hehe! Then we rode to Carmona Cavite and back to Sta. Rosa via Timbao. I want to thank Sir Mike, Nel, Edwin, SuperUser and the other 3 guys (sorry, I can't remember your names). ;D hehe! Its my first time to do XC.
Well, the bike stood up to the test going uphills, downhills, mud trails, concrete, grass... Had it cleaned at SABAK and she is pretty again (well, at least for me).
My only gripe is that instead of buying those double tracks, I should instead bought the mavic 233 (I think?). I had my bike weighed and its 37 lbs. HEAVY! And I think those double tracks add to the excess weight.
This is all for now. Will keep you guys posted! ;D

sure will do. OT: btw oceanrider, where do you ride? I'm from laguna and no riding buddies yet. ;D We usually ride in Sta Rosa on weekdays and weekends and meet in Paseo near new balance and starbucks. Beautiful trails - perfect for your bike. Do ride with us sometime. We are all beginners from alabang and pque. Just PM me your number. I'll advise you on our next ride. The rains are just making it a bit difficult to plan a trip as no one wants to pedal through thick mud. Cheers!

Update: I had my bike weighed and its 37 lbs. HEAVY! And I think those double tracks add to the excess weight. thought your name was ekwan 37 lbs is not too bad brad. Fat bikers on a 27 lb MTB, who are 50 lbs over weight, are not any better off than you The lighter rims help make turning your wheels feel lighter and faster - maybe that's all you need - the lighter pedalling FEEL not really a lighter bike. Also, your seat post seems too low - that adds to the heavy feeling. Adjust it in such a way that your legs are almost fully extended when you pedal. I carry almost 4 liters of water at any given ride - imagine that extra weight - I dont care though - at least i'm having fun - that's what matters the most. I hope you enjoyed upak trail on your way down Pao

Update:
I rode my bike to work today. Not so much beating going to work... On my way home, I had 2 road choices: the subdivision road or the muddy 1 km downhill ride. Guess what I took??? Hehe!!! 1 km muddy semi-dh beating baby! Man, I wish I can do that everyday! ;D So far, my bike's still intact, ready for the next trails! ;D

Hi all. Newbie here and this is my first post, many thanks to all for this very informative forum for bikers, glad to be on board.
I'm planning to upgrade my old HT because some structural cracks are already showing on the frame headset tube. My sights are kinda set on this santacruz imitation considering my limited budget, the good reviews in this thread and the good looks of the frame. I'm into biking more for the fitness aspect than for racing and other hardcore stuff, so i'm sure this frame will hold up to my expectations. My bike routes are mostly the barangay roads nearby, both paved and unpaved, gravel packed and sometimes dirt roads with plenty of inclines ranging from moderate to steep. My questions are the ff:
1. For those who have bought this frame, how has it held up so far? What modifications have you made on the pivot and how much was spent? 2. I'll be in Manila this May and i plan to buy the frame in Cartimar, Pasay. Any updates on the price? What stores in Cartimar currently have the frame in stock? 3. How much would i add if i upgrade the rear shock? As i'm on a limited budget, i'd opt for the most cost effective replacement. Or is it better to retain the stock shock and replace it when it's busted? 4. What affordable front shocks would you recommend for this frame? I'm planning to do DH if my fitness and skill levels are already up to it.
Anticipating your replies, thank you very much. Have a good day.

the good reviews in this thread and the good looks of the frame. what good reviews? i might have missed them don't be a fool.get yourself a nice new HT frame instead of this. i can't believe after everything that's said in this thread about this particular frame that you are still considering it as an option. [glow=red,2,300]DO NOT GET THE SANTA CRUZ IMITATION FRAME[/glow]try reading this thread again. you might have missed some info's

you were able to crack your HT and now you're gonna buy an imitation frame with bad reviews...i say that's dangerous! pag-isipan mong mabuti ulit, brad.

leonkilat, the santa cruz imitation frame was discussed for what, 4-5 pages already. it's not recommended. i've seen it in action, a 130 lb rider riding along Quezon Ave. can make the swingarm move side to side. but i'll answer your questions just the same. 1) No I haven't bought this frame, but I do know someone who modified the pivots. Additional costs are minimal, but all the frames he sold we're returned because they BROKE. 2) Price, less than 5K, i think it's still available in Quiapo. But if you value your life and limb....get a better frame, search the buy and sell section. 3) would you buy and immitation chuck taylors than have the soles replaced with air soles? given that the frame sways side to side, you will just break the rear shock even if you replace it with an expensive one. 4) recommended shocks? read number 3. BTW the original superlight was intended for XC. the imitation performs lower than that. don't even think of doing DH with it. i don't want to burst your bubble brad, but if the frame breaks, you might get injured. worse if somebody borrows your ride then it breaks and your buddy gets injured. worst, it doesn't have warranty. Bye bye investment. Murphy's Law brad.

Thanks for your replies. Well, if we look back on the previous posts on this thread, it's only babykyla that's been having a serious problem with the frame and that's because he used it for extreme DH, something that it was not intended for IMO. The posts of raimun, angelobryant and pao who bought this frame were encouraging enough for me, as their riding styles more or less fits mine. Plus the comments of warlock. Plus my limited budget of course... and another plus is the fact that i'm still a newbie and extreme DH is out of the question (at this point in time... but who knows?) I'm in my mid 40's btw, 5'11" & about 170lbs. I want to experience what they've experienced going downhill with an FS... the smoothness of the ride, without the stress to my lower back. Last time out, when i bombed down a gravel road, my neck muscles (shoulder blade muscles) took a beating and my teeth rattled so much, hehe... but i really enjoyed the rush. Anyways, your replies and comments are very much welcome. @xctofi thank you for welcoming me to the board, i just might get me a similarly priced HT once i get to see the goody frames in Cartimar . anthrax76 thank you for your point replies., i'll keep all of these things in mind when i go to Cartimar. malakas and angelobryant, any news/updates on the frame brad? Hope to hear from you before i take the plunge. Maybe there are others out there who've experienced this frame good or bad, i do need your reviews. Again, Pinoy MTBiker is an awesome forum, i've been browsing most of the topics and it's been an excellent learning experience for me and i'll know i'll be a better rider because of this.

Just my 2 cent,
Why not save up for a better frame? Even if it got delayed, at least you will enjoy your better frame for a longer time and safer.

Wow, thanks guys for directing me to those other threads re the sinuperlight, my bad that i got carried away with this one thread and did not think of searching for similar threads. Now i'm having second thoughts... What about the KHS frame mentioned in that sta cruz replica thread, is that a better option? How much for that frame? Can you please recommend a good HT? I'm really on a tight budget, less than 10k, and it's not that often that i get the chance to go to Manila to check out the stores. In our place, my frame options are very limited and a bit more expensive. I understand better your concerns now... safety first! And i do appreciate your efforts to educate fellow bikers and your TLC too. But it really is a nice looking frame... with a very nice price tag...sayang... ben dover, many thanks for your comments pards...
