Thanks a Mighty Hyperion for sharing your experience with block 8. You are such a Big Help. Tomorrow, I will buy a backup pair just in case present stocks run out.
I made the mistake of running 45psi initially kanina. I was being bounced about like a pogo stick upon hitting dirt trail of Brgy San Roque. I reduced to 32psi. After that I was hovering thru roughness like a conqueror.

@ Fapirocky: You are always welcome siree. Oh another tip ... you can spray/wipe Pledge (the spray stuff used to make furniture shiny ...) on the tire sidewalls (but not on the knobs of course hehe) so less dirt/mud stick to em and they look pitch black new. I made this accidental discovery since I use pledge to make my bike look shiny and new (and lemon scented hehe).

ay! i find the Small Block 8 slippery! i planted my left knee on loose gravel yesterday when my Block 8 rear tire skidded on the wet (it was raining) trail. of course i was also careless (not staying focused while downhilling), but i wasn't any less careless yesterday than last week when i was still using my kalbo Nevegal, and i've never slipped on the Nevegals. so maybe i'll switch back to Nevegals.

whoopi, I was using small block 8s yesterday at Kandila too and I never had any problem with them. Yes Nevegals are stickier of course. I think the SB8 just take some time to get used to. Yes they skid esp when new but it is a predictable and controllable skid and they become stickier after you wear out the knobs a bit. I also had a hard time using the SB8 (after maxxis larsen TT) at first - they would skid, roll too fast downhill, or feel weird on corners but now I totally love them. Try running them at lower psi especially since you are obviously not a heavy rider. I am about 170 lbs and I run mine at around 30 psi only so maybe you can try running them at 28psi or so?

hyperion: hmmmm, you just saved me Php1,400 on a new Nevagal. okay, i'll try to wear out the SB8 a bit, i'm good at wearing out tires ;D by the way, are there MEDIUM Block 8s and LARGE BLOCK 8s???

I used IRC KUJOS on my bike for a couple of years in all conditions including a duathlon. Man my rig never felt heavier with all those duathletes on tri bikes zipping past me on their slicks haha since then i've tried the KENDA SHORT TRACKERS which are great for road and hard pack but insanely slippery on roots in the rainy season. fortunately, i came across a pair of IRC MISSILE tires (do they even still make these?) in mint condition, slapped them on and--how do i describe the feeling? Do you know what it feels like to have a new girlfriend? That might be the closest emotional equivalent hehehe

has anyone tried the geax blade 200? they're really good for XC and AM on not-so-dry tracks - great for baguio! they give me a lot of confidence to take corners really fast. i can't seem to find them in the phils - i shipped mine from australia, but i only have one tire!

Been using Hutchinson Pythons for awhile. Very good all around tire. I noticed that they tend to fade in extreme conditions though.

I've tried Bontrager, Kenda, Maxxis and Tioga. Kenda grips better.

Kenda Nevegal 2.1's... also no regrets.
I've used these both on and off road in thick mud... and it worked like a charm. I'll pay close attention to this thread as I'm also looking at Continental, Michelin, Panaracer, Maxxis and IRC. If I'm lucky, I'd probably get two separate pairs... one for the road and one for the trail.

My only gripe about Nevegal tires is they friggin get bald soooo fast!!
But other than that, grip, cornering and climbing are superb.

if you get the DTC Kendas (instead of Stick-E), they hold up faster. Specially if you do a lot of pavement riding to get to the trails...

whoa....! I suddenly felt odd and old after reading through this thread. Really. Hasn't anyone here ever shod their rig with those kevlar beaded GF (Gary Fisher) fattrax and dusttrax (circa '91) 2.3's and 2.5's? I've virtually tried every tire incarnation from that time til now but nothing ever comes close to these in terms of grip AND rolling resistance AND longevity!!! Too bad i have nothing but my big mouth to back this up, just give the man this single vote. I really admire him even after he sold his soul to Trek.

Currently rolling on Kenda small block 8s 1.95.
Im 5'5" 135lbs and i'm loving it so far. Great for climbing, cornering, very grippy on paved roads, hard packed dirt, and big or small rocks. It descends fast as well, almost too fast but that is ok, nothing braking can't handle. Also, no rolling resistance. I'll try running it on 30psi and see if it improves, was running them at 35 normally.
