Sorry please don't be confused, there are four kinds of Karma, AFAIK... The DTC, L3R, & UST (tubeless)... Then the newer version DTC/SWS (Side Wall Shield technology).
Thank you.
Reason for ed1ting: DTC = Dual Tacky(?) Compound (am open for corrections*)

IMHO, for XC/ trail applications, been using ( since final Q '04 until 3Q '05) Kenda-licious particularly Blue Groove & Karma except for some issues that badly plagued me... Tumours. Now, am trying Hard drive & Maxxlite 310 from Maxxis... As well as, Hutchinson Bulldog Light. So far so good with Slime-Stans (50-50) concoction. hey onie, were'd you get them maxxlite and how much? TIA

Nice. Good you posted the pics. Nipis pala talaga. I heard from King that sponsored riders, because they know how to "read" the trail conditions, shave/take out/cut knobs as a means to tweak their tires. With Maxxlite, what's there to shave? ?

Bruce, thanks! That's what PinoyMTBiker is all about. Sharing, camaraderie, & funrides! Ahem, Nightrides also! LoLz! Just knowledge in a nutshell More "decent" shots (from Canon D-SLR) revealing tread pattern for race use only on hard pack. Another thing which makes me skeptical to use it as trail tire, it's quite thin... Parang single ply lang ata 'to..? Pero ang gaan talaga! That's the trade-off there, I think. ;D You'd get what I'm saying once you got hold of it... Ang nipis talaga as in... If it wasn't for the tumour issues, Karmas & Klimaxxlites pa rin talaga ako! Bad Karma for me! hehehe! Thank ya'll for your time, Fr1ends! That's all folks! ;D

funny thing is that i never see maxxis sponsored riders using maxxlites. usually it's oriflamme, larsen tt, ignitor or advantage. sa weightweenie.com ko lang nakikita ang mga naka maxxlight na mtbs

haha onie sorry, i take it back i havent seen that issue yet. can't argue with the tire choice of a current norba champ! still i'm sure it was a race day choice based on the current conditions that day. by the way onie, i have a review for the setlaz grips in the rain. they didn't slip on the bars when wet, but they felt slippery in my hands (i dont use gloves). i used to use ryan's tip no. 20- bar tape on the handlebars, but two layers only, instead of three. i was using the old attack racing cork-gel bar tape (around P300) that i replaced on my road bike and i guess they were too ratty for three they felt better then the setlaz grips. firm and tacky, even when wet.

OK lang po... ;D I'm not up against anyone here... Just sharing for bits of knowledge... That's why we're here... Learning is a never-ending thing. I learned a lot from you, "Idols"! Just paying back. Wow! That's cool! Thanks for the feedback re: Setlaz as well as head-ups for the bar tape. Di pwede combo? Still use Setlaz foam grips then wrap it with that bar tape 2 rounds?

might be too thick. by the way, other people have said that the setlaz grips slip on the bar when really wet. maybe it didnt rain hard enough yesterday. i had the same problem with the cheap foam grips i used before. there wasnt any danger of them slipping off the bar though because of the bar ends. but back to tires...
aside from the short trackers, i'll also be using the l3r pro kenda karma 2.0's, and will also use the 1.90 version for a 2.0/1.90 front/rear set up because i dont have that much tire clearance in the rear. i also want to try later on the larsen tt's and the new kenda short block eights. what i'm really looking for is a good, thin mud tire (1.8 or so) for those muddy maarat rides. any suggestions?

Nyak! If that's the case of Setlaz... back to the old drawing board for me.
Goin' back to tires, hehehe! ;D I have read Kenda Komodos are great in mud. But I think it would impose some problem if you are to use it at your rear since it's 2.10 but weighs sub 600.
Try to search for these tires: Panaracer TrailRaker and Schwalbe Black Shark Mud. Just dunno if we have it here locally.
TrailRaker (1.95") is 495-500 g provides maximum grip on even the most extreme cambers yet will not clog up, even in the muddiest of conditions. It has a UST version but i dunno the weight for such.

If I only may add: Fans of Hans Rey wouldn't be chearing alongside Maxxis. Mr. Rey has jumped ship to Kenda. Then I wonder if Maxxis will re-name Maxxis Hansventure (26x2.35) or drop it now for such reason of switching allegiance...
But whatever happens that said tire is one burly tire. Tough enough for playing 'round. Rolls sweet! Grips OK. Wears well. A bit heavy (because of all the rubber in the tread).
The Hans Venture, awaiting orders! ;D

I am currently looking for a good general condition tire. I am an XC rider. Criteria should be low rolling/fast rolling either 1.95 or 2.0, tires should be light. I am currently using conti supersonic tubes, michellin, giant, IRC all of which are light tubes. Any recommendation?
Re the best tire. I think the question is very general. Each tire has its own quality and purpose. You just have to pick the right tire for the type of ride you do. As for me, I choose Specialized Stormcontrol for the rainy season & the Michelin Complite S during summer or as an all purpose tire, its a fast rolling tire and light, the only problem I have with it is that it lacks the bite when its muddy or wet.
I have used the ff:
Specialized (Stormcontrol) IRC (geoclaw, serac xc) Maxxis (Calibos) Michellin (Complite S UST) Panaracer (Dirtbuster Pro)

i'm justifying the purchase of the tires for the jan07 ride to tagaytay as well as _______________ (just put in any other reason that the wife won't believe as well)

I have been a Maxxis Minion user for about two years now and I'm not planning on changing it. If I were to change my setup, I'd probably opt for a highroller rear and leave the front minion alone. I've tried a friend's highroller. As the name suggests, it's a bit faster rolling than the minion.

I love the Hutchinson Python Airlights 2.0, just 480 grams and great grip and all around XC tire. I used to run Continental Explorer Pros 2.3 on my Yeti 575, they were great too and at just under 600 grams, really light--but I've replaced them with Pythons. I just put the retro Panaracer Smoke and Dart tire combo on my singlespeed and they were great as well, though not quite as light as the Pythons @ 560 grams. I'm more of an XC rider, so I tend to go for the lighter tires, in my opinion, the Hutchinson Python Airlights are light enough for everyday use and racing. More practical than the sub 400 gram tires around which are solely used as a race day tires.

I have a 2.1 nylon bead version of Hard Drive and it's surprisingly tough on rockies. I don't know about 1.8 though.
