i'm thinking of purchasing a pre-owned skareb... for my secret projek! anybody selling his? -------- so not to be OT, what model/level of the R7 or skareb is comparable to the RS SID race? thanks! i was planning on selling my wife's skareb which is rarely used but since she's out of the country along with her bike, its gonna take some time, hehehe. ;D its a bit difficult to compare a skareb over a SID. its for the same use (XC) but it has totally different technological platforms. to make easier/shorter, SID has a technological edge over a skareb. even the weight of a skareb is a far cry from a sid. but an R7 is a different story though. although an R7 is heavier, its stanchions are 30mms compared to a SIDs 28 giving you the edge over technical, rougher sections. also, the R7's platform is different even when you compare it with a skareb. but i must say, an R7 is a big leap from a skareb. so to compare a SID with an R7? its still a bit difficult. i guess preferrence and riding style are the key words. an R7's platform is way too different from a SID. i suggest you try both to compare. its hard to explain things that you feel especially if you're not that expressive, hehehe. ;D. let's just say that if you're the aggressive type, go for an R7. conservative, a SID will do. i hope this makes the murky water murkier, hehehe. ;D i'll let you try mine, jaymz, if there's an opportunity. manitou products lang ha. . pero pag all mountain, and agressive XC, i have a recon and a revelation you can try out. but a SID? cant afford eh, hehehe. ;D

Model : Year: model /year: manitou axel Price: php2,500.00 Bought from: king's Travel: 130mm modified to 80mm Length of use(abuse?): 3mos. Bike Setup: jeproxx frame for street & trials Pros: cheap, looks neat with reverse arc, Cons: too soft (for me only) if to be ridden as is (stock) bottomline: good bang for the buck entry level fork... main problem would be its being "soft", but once you set it up properly for your intended riding style (excluding hardcore dj n dh off course ) it can serve its purpose well... used it for some nose hops, pivots n hard endos, n some occasional crashes too but still it showed no signs of dying hehehe

Model : Manitou Skareb Platinum. compression adjust, lock-out, rebound and remote travel adjust Year: 2005? i think Price: 18k 2nd hand Bought from: Edmund Mangaser: All Terra Travel: 100mm Length of use(abuse?): 2 years and going very very strong Bike Setup: khs alite team, cane creek headset, american classic mtb 26 wheelset, kenda small block 8 1.95, deore groupset. Pros: very light, adjustable, great for xc, climbing Cons: sticktion (tama ba?) makes the it sticky to compress by hand when its not washed for a while.
bottom line: As long as you have it maintained: cleaned, oil changed, and replace all the seals every 6mo then it is magnificent. I'm not planning to replace it for a long time still.

Model : Manitou Sherman Firefly w/ 20 mm thru axle; SPV on right leg and titanium springs on the left leg. Had set the SPV to 50 psi. Year: 2004. Price: secret... ;D. Bought from: Bongjumper. Travel: 90/130 mm. Length of use(abuse?): 2 months. Bike Setup: Single speed DJ/Urban rig. Color: Flat Black
Pros: Light... can take drops. Solid feel when landing in concrete ;D. I used the 130mm for dropping-in to concrete, staircase ridding and other abusive urban stuffs. Used the 90 mm setting during spinning. Its really stiff. I can hammer out of the saddle with no bobbing. The rapid travel 2 is dual purpose. It will lessen the fork's travel to 90mm for those aggressive uphill climbs and it also serve as a lock out. The fork is not sensitive on this setting though. The travel change from 90 to 130mm is on the fly.
The decal is also good... its not made of a sticker but its made of a thin pressed metal. Cons: None so far. I'm very pleased with this fork.

Peeps,
I'm planning to buy a Skareb Comp 2004 (air on the right leg) @ 1.5 kgs or a Skareb Comp 2005 (air on the right leg and lock out on the left leg) @ 1.6 kgs for my XC rig at home. Both fork models are with rebound. Any comments on these fork models. Positive and negative comments are welcome...
Thanks.

They are good forks, I have before a Skareb Comp 2006, functions well, the only thing that i noticed on that fork is that the steerer tube is short, i forgot the length but it's definitely short.

@ bernie, Thanks. I'll use an frame w/ an integrated head tube. No probs for me if the steerer is short. I'll make the rig an aggressive looking one . It means that the front should be low as possible for efficient climbing. Thanks again po Sir. Keep your comments coming...

Yep, that's where Skareb is all about, aggressive looking MTB , looks faster, mine before was installed in my ex-Giant NRS XC FS, the bike looks very aggressive ;D

Update on my Sherman Firefly... had dropped my rig to 8 ft to tranny this morning. 7 perfect landings and 1 failure... semplang . But I'm ok. . I had intentionally set it in 90mm travel. The fork performs great. Hadn't bottomed it. By the way, for this experiment I had set the air pressure on the SPV to 30 psi. The required minimum setting ... Way to go manitou! Ride Hard and Ride Safe...

it already a year when i used it. (May 15, 2007-June 15, 2008) + ;D
as you notice the extension tube on top by sir boyet. that was still intact! i've just consulted with sir boyet 2 nights ago and stated that it considers a replacement since it is no longer trail worthy. it can still be used for bike commute but it needs to be drilled to install a screwdriver to retain its position. i think i will not compromise my safety with it.
So long farewell my dear Slate! thanks for all the patience that you gave me during my trail, century and urban rides and giving me over a year of bike adventures! haha!
