guys pop quiz if you were to choose between a manitou spliced and a marzochi mx comp who would you be taking home? and while you're at it... can i ask why? let me see.... splice - 100-130 mm travel, adjustable; mx comp(no ETA) - 100 mm splice - coil spring; mx comp - air splice - w/ lockout; mx comp - no lockout dito pa lang sa tatlo, lamang na ang splice on paper...how about price? then again, original marzocchis are practically indestructable if set right and used for designed purpose...some manitous are prone to leaking (check out mtb review for specific models concerned) also, for what frame ba to greatwhitemocha?

sir gulli si mad doc po ang humihingi ng advice specialized m4 ang frame. the price? well... may nakita kasi akong shop that is selling both for almost the same price.. as in 300 bucks lang ang difference. ang sabi nga lang sa akin ng owner is only child na yung manitou (last one) while the marzochi's have many brothers and cousins. i have heard nothing but good reviews for the mx comps especially the indestructible part but i haven't heard much bout the manitous... kaso noong nakita ko nga eh... ;D it does look great on paper, but what would it take to make it leak? in respect to the mx comp what kind of abuse will it take? ala naman akong balak tumalon sa bangin anytime soon ;D

my two cents... the manitou splice looks like an excellent deal and is practically a steal as with regards to price... but mx comps are the real deal my friend practically bombproof. the splice does have more features but these features only matter when you consider your riding style. asses if you need all of those things but if you think you won't need them go with the mx comp...they don't dissapoint. gulli... its for my black and yellow beast of a hardtail ;D

mad doc, only 300 bucks?! can i assume you're looking at a price range of 6-7.5k? anyway, hmmm... the splice seems to be a relatively new model release by manitou and haven't heard or read anything about it yet by users at the sites i visit kaya but if what they claim is true, having built it "ground up"...then its a pretty attractive option. why don't you try this...get each fork off the display stand (with the store owner's permission of course) and place the steerer tube firmly on the ground. the fork is now upside down right? then grip each of the forks stanchions at the ends (where you fasten the wheel) and push down on the fork...how does each fork feel? if you can describe a difference (if any) that might help us form an opinion i once had an mx comp and observed that the harder you pushed down on the stanchions, you needed to exert more effort as the stanchions compressed to their fullest...sa akin, it translated into a suspension play that was a bit too harsh for me greatwhitemocha, you never did say what fork you finally opted for?

actually i got the 130mm... think i'm crazy? did a little research and actually riding the frame a bit higher suited my style of riding and kind of "leveled-off" my thudbuster in the rear. the steering (people told me) would slow down... but she actually handled better, became more responsive weird huh? guess when it comes to personal riding preferences we're allowed to break the norms i don't recommend this to anyone but hey i love being a guinea pig on this rig ;D SWEET! ;D

just in case i want to upgrade guys....
does anyone here have the marzocchi bomber z150 freeride fork? how does it perform? i would like to buy one if my budget permits but would anyone know how much it is and which LBS is carrying it?
also, is the RST alfalfa worth it? i think it's the beefiest out there WITH THE LOWEST PRICE?
but i'll try to search the z150 first and see if how much it would be then

aren't u looking at 2 different type of forks here? z150 is not going to be cheap... the RST isn't going to be as well performing as the z150. find your budget and go for it. but most impt is the type of riding u do. u dnt wanna go xc rides on the z150. although it can be done no problem, your bike will feel taller and your position won't be optimized for climbing for example.
type of riding.... budget....buy!

@ peachy : sorry brad but i just thought that the RST alfalfa is a freeride able fork as to what i read in the other threads (or i might be wrong), and i knew the price would be different between the two of them, just wanna find out how much it costs (the z150), but i did got the picture, thanks!
just collecting insights actually, maybe i was bitten by "the upgrade fly" and i'm like having a fit of the "upgrade itch" even though i'm happy with my current fork (it's a suntour M series fork w/ lock out) but anyway the querry was just for info when the unlikely need arises. i'm a pure xc rider leaning towards the freeride setup coz of the big possibility that i might be hitting the trails with very moderate DH out of town soon if my schedule permits.
as for the upgrade itch, i'll just scratch it off for the moment and just enjoy the ride ;D
