been bike commuting for more than a year now. i take the sta. ana-san juan-qc route, a total of 12km. been passing by this route almost everyday. for the past days i've been timing my travel and so far my best time was 36mins. my goal is to lower my time to the 30-35mins ave. it used to take me about 40-45mins before. but this morning my travel took a little longer and it took a different turn. i was passing santolan road to ortigas, descending the curve, when i noticed the curved section a little wet. since i've been passing through this road for a hundred times i rolled over the wet part of the curve. BIG MISTAKE! what i mistook for a water spill turns out to be a chemical spill. from the looks and smell of it, i think its oil and gasoline spill. i was turning left at the curve when my rear tires drifted right. i tried to maneuver the bike to gain balance but i find myself drifting sideways. my left pedal and my knee was already touching the concrete road when i got separated from my bike. i soon find myself backspinning ala ninja turtle. i did a 540 on a national road. good thing i had a backpack which absorbed the impact. it took me a couple of seconds to get up. i was stunned! everything happened so fast. when i got up my left knee was aching and my hands was shaking. good thing no vehicles was near behind me or else i have been a goner. here are the pics i took when i reached the office. shot of my back with shirt on. my bare back my shirt and backpack and finally the tocino i got. lessons of the story: always be cautious and don't underestimate the roads.

Next time you do a stunt like that, make sure somebody's holding a camera so you can upload it in youtube. ;D
Btw, it doesn't have to be a chemical spill or gasoline. Water, molds or dirt alone make a semplang just fine.
Thank goodness you're all right, brad.

get well soon brad. things like that on the road is the reason why i look like a DH rider while bike commuting. i get odd looks for my knee/shin guards, elbow pads and full face helmet. and it's only a 9km trip, he he he.

ARGH!!! By the way, whats with crappy commercialism print on the shirt? i happen to work on the station sir thats why i wear that shirt. its a complementary shirt. the back shot was intended to show the grease/oil that i got from the crash and not to commercialize the print. sorry if you consider it crappy!

charge it to experience i guess when you get too familiar with the route you tend to be complacent - that's how it is. but look at the bright side - you're alive and well - just a battle scar. count your blessings. heal well and ride safe....
