I think Makiling is the plan for the next run. Ang lalakas nila (they are the strong ones) - specially the tennis players (they play tennis 3 hours a day 3 times a week).

Any tips on trail running? Particularly in comparison with your regular runs on pavement? yup, this is in preparation for the AMCI duathlon

First, trail running requires trail running-specific shoes - road running shoes will have disadvantages (less traction on terrain). Even if from researching the net some people would say trail shoes are not important.
Small rocks and pebbles can get inside your shoe and it can become painful. Am not sure how to avoid this (seen some North Face shoes with ankle covers like during our CMT days around your boots, not sure if it will do the trick).
You may need ankle support as the terrain is often uneven and you can get sprained. Use midfoot strike running techniques here. Gore-Tex waterproof shoes would be good for some water crossings (not beyond ankle deep). Leaves on the ground are deceiving as you won't know what lies underneath - stones which can cause you to roll-over, or roots that can snag your foot. Or simply uneven surface underneath.
Downhill is tricky going fast as you try to brake as well to avoid slipping or endoeing? Be sure to cut your toe nails as they can become really painful after the run. My toes were hurting for 2 days after the run.
Uphill needs momentum using your forefoot (so practice forefoot running by running up stairs double-time).
Keeping hydrated is key, to avoid cramps (I use knee pads which doubles as leg warmers for cramps). Never underestimate the heat and carry liquids that you can manage.
Other essentials: sun block, sunglasses (though sometimes they are a nuisance), cap, some orienteering skills, mobile phone just in case you get lost in the trail (which is easy even in La Mesa as you would not see a ranger sometimes).
More to come as I recall the experience....

Here's my 2 cents; 1. a good pair of trail running shoes with a good traction and ankle support is a must for safety reason. running on uneven terrain, downhills, jumping and hopping from one rock to the other requires a firm grip wherever you point your feet on the trail and helps prevent your ankle from twisting accidentally. a good example is the Salomon XA ProDA...an XCR or Goretex is only good on early morning runs when the grass are wet with morning dews or if its raining a bit. However, it is not really advisable overall specially if there is a water crossing. Once the water comes in, it is not easy to drain the water out and it will be very uncomfortable... Not to mention that its hot to wear. 2. running on pavement for most runners is that you run from the start and stop at your designated stop/finished line or time...however for trail running, the uphill are mostly done by fast walking and considered as recovery period...unlike the elite or pro runner, then most of them can just run it all the way up no matter how steep are the climbs... Cheers,

Oh that would be good sana.
Have a pending schedule for a Manila to Calamba Rizal Shrine ride this Saturday. Then there is the Rush to Infinity Run (Mizuno Part 2) at the Fort this Sunday which I am contemplating on joining if I can prepare enough.
To be honest, I just learned of the schedule last night and my last run was last Friday before the typhoon. Did a short 4k run today from home to work and stair-climbed up 30 floors in my office before work. I hope I can get myself ready in time.
Next weekend my sked is open na for La Mesa.
