In my observation ,there were lots of participants of the event but after the event itself,none/or a few were really a big contributor here.....I see this because i bike to commute to work, too traffic especially c5 area.I still believe in old saying ningas kugon still on our bloods....Sorry for those who got offended,I feel so sorry to the next generation that they no longer have a safer place to live in for the next 20-30-50 years from now.I was really devastated when i watch AL GORE"inconvenient truth"...Peace....do ride hard....

jcguray, well, we're sending a message. and on the 5 times i've been joining the tour, i've seen participants increase in number. i've seen bike parking in ayala malls, i've seen a bike rack in one of the LRT stations. 10 years of riding and we're already seeing improvement. i guess it's not bad

with due respect to jcguray's opinion as well as to the TOF participants, organizers or what not. perhaps he is barking at the wrong tree "I see this because i bike to commute to work, too traffic especially c5 area.I still believe in old saying ningas kugon still on our bloods" traffic, pollution and other environmental issues is what the tour of the fireflies advocacy is intending to address by promoting cycling as an alternative form of transportation. you cannot just tell any tom dick and harry who participated in the TOFX to leave their cars at home and just go bike commuting(how i wish a lot of them can be like you after joining the TOFX), but you CAN open-up their minds and educate participants and watchers of the TOFX that there is an ALTERNATIVE to motorized commuting, that WE CAN, IF WE LIKE TO give our share in helping lessen air pollution and in the process be ONE LESS CAR to be a contributor to this much daunted and feared GLOBAL WARMING (as what Al Gore has shown in his docu an inconvenient truth). i am not a mouthpiece of the fireflies brigade (organizers of the TOF) but i have seen how they have done their part in making bike commuting a better alternative by doing their share in encouraging local governments for bike lanes, bike parks as well as business establishments in making their places more bike commuter friendly (bike parkings in all ayala-operated malls, opening of the araneta center area to bikes) organizing monthly Critical Mass Rides, organizing and joining advocacy rides. one of the TOFX sponsor, firefly lighting even gave bicycles to its workers (150+) so as to encourage bike commuting, i have seen how whole families, friends and groups have enjoyed riding and going around metro manila with 6,000+ of their kind via the TOFX.we cannot even fathom how many from these numbers will one day be bike commuters, nobody will know. but it's being done. and btw....rome wasn't built in one day, right? PADYAK LANG NG PADYAK peace out brother.

ah i see...i think what he wanted to say was...sure there was a lot of participation during the event but he believes that even those who participated in the event don't actually have the intention of using their bikes to commute...which actually what the event was all about..bike commuting. hehe! he has a point. ouch!! sorry about that..somebody just stepped on my toes.

let's not lose hope, the bicycle revolution may seem slow... but with efforts like the ToF, we can hopefully find a better future. even if we don't realize it fully now, i'm sure the next generation will benefit. i had a chitchat with a taxi driver the other day, i was trying to get his reaction for the last ToFX. i anticipated something negative, like it caused a lot of traffic jams, and delays to motorists, etc. to my surprise he said, "balang araw lahat ng tao magbibike na, ang mahal na ng gasolina eh." (someday all people will ride bikes, because gasoline has become so expensive). it struck me, i never expected those words to come from someone like him. sorry again mga sirs, but not here to catch a fight but I do insist lets do more actions that will really starts from us bikers thats why I insist please do put more time on the saddles...hopefully this explained mga sirs explained my points.... Sir arci - I maybe harse from what i said from the word "big contributor" cause i my self was only part of all of us(probably not the right word sir,i cant find the exact word, sorry 'bout that)My big apology sir.. @ sdny -- Sorry brad for i got you offended,my apology!!

The fact that the Tour of the Fireflies and the issue of bike commuting is being discussed in an mtb forum, that is success.
Bike commuting is doable and fun, but still, it is a lifestyle change from what we perceive as normal.
In April 2003 I was a mere participant in the ToF that year. In April 2004, I was a bike commuter. In April 2005, I was a core group member of the Firefly Brigade.
Little trickles here and there......
But before there are more bike commuters , there must be more bikers to begin with. Thus I thank the PinoyMTBiker community for putting more bikes on the trails, more bikes in the mountains, more bikes in urban jungles. Get more people on bikes, that is my challenge to all of PinoyMTBiker.
Let us make this little trickle a stream, a river, and into a sea of bikers.
Bike to Work! Bike to School! Bike to Play! Bike Today!!

Well said Ricky! I'm into bike commuting again since Monday . . . immediately after TOF ha! Isa ako sa mga naenganyo niyo ( trans. defense mechanism of someone who can't afford a car ) But I make sure to be the first one in the office so I can clean, and refresh before my colleagues arrive so no one will frown at me . . . Keep it up TOF!

try to pass-by the engineering office of marikina, just a little far behind blue wave mall, and there you will see a significant number of bicycles (maybe hundreds) parked during regular days. these bicycles belong to marikina city local govt employees who bike-commutes from their respective homes to work and vice versa.
that shows a significant contribution to TOF's advocacy.

I walk down to my office ;D client calls.. those the killer ones. I need to drive to them coz they re based in Laguna and Batangas mostly.
